Everything looks good on paper. (See this year's NJ team. By no means a world beater, but better than 3 wins, wouldnt you say so? Like I said, all looks good on paper, haha. And one last minor thing I'll be picky at, CDR at SG and James at SF imo .)
Yeah. But even on paper we all knew that team lacked leadership. If you bring in Lebron James, I guarantee the whole mentality of that team would change. Especially with the additional talent of Wall and whatever power forward. I forgot to mention they could bring in Carlos Loser too. Even then, beast of a team.
harris doesn't really look that good this season. must be the kind of player that needs a all star to play off
Could they really afford all the players you are throwing in there? I'm not saying they couldn't, it just seems at first glance like they'd be over the cap signing all those big name players.
I'm no BimaThug, NIKEstrad, Gator, or Aelliot and I'd love to hear what they have to say about this. But it appears to me that the short answer is yes. Obviously Wall and Lopez would still be on rookie deals. Yi, Douglas-Roberts, and Lee would all be in the final year of their rookie deals. Devin Harris doesn't make quite as much money as you may think at just under 9 million next season - and obviously they can take back 25% less salary when sending him out (and they could even opt to send him out before the trade deadline for expiring contracts). But, before considering their 1st round pick, their salary is at about 26 million. You can see their salary situation here: http://hoopshype.com/salaries/new_jersey.htm Again, I'm not an expert but it appears as though a max deal for players who have been in the league for 7 + years now is about 16 million per year to start. Which means they could afford to sign two players to close to max deals (they might need to second star they sign to be one that will sign in the 10 million per year range. Perhaps Boozer?) and still be hovering right around the soft cap. And by my math they would be nowhere near luxury tax land. Yeah. I think it could be done. However, I really hope BimaThug shows up to tell me how wrong I am.
First, I really don't see why. If you consider the talent they already have, then add John Wall and a top notch power forward such as Bosh, Stoudemire or Boozer, then add Lebron James - you would already have one of the scariest teams in the league. All of that before trading Devin Harris for depth. And this without considering Lebron's relationship with Jay-Z. It might be a long shot, but I'd hardly call it crazy. Second, and most important, I don't think anybody said they actually THINK it will happen. We are just discussing how intriguing the possibility is.
