Not sure about all the "big game" stuff, but he def needs to step it up against the Thunder. DH's stat lines in the three games against the Thunder:

(Don't know how to fix this big gap, if someone can tell me I'll edit.)

Howard doesn't know what he is good at. He should set more picks because Harden, Lin and Chandler play great pick&roll. Yesterday, offence was so much smoother when Asik is in the game.

Apart from that and defence, Howard is better all around.

I love Asik, but he is not top 5 when healthy. MAYBE top 10.

He needs to use his speed against OKC's bigs. Instead of trying to back down Adams, he should try to go around him. The problem for a big man when trying to use his face up game, he needs more spacing and the Rockets perimeter weren't giving it to him because they couldn't hit threes. So the interior defense of OKC played really tight on Dwight causing him to rush his hooks, etc. Making 3's is VITAL for the Rockets to beat these contenders.

Asik plays the exact same way every single game without fail. He's one of the most consistent players in the NBA, right up there with Chuck Hayes.

Asik is bigger and sort of by definition is 'tougher' to go at defensively. Asik is a better defensive player than Howard because of his size and also because Howard is not as quick as he used to be and can't dominate bigger, athletic bigs. So far, McHale has been unable to get Asik into the rotation where he can impact the game the way he did last year. Getting that right could mean the difference between success and failure in the playoffs.

He is way off on this. Asik is not an offensive player and as such doesn't try to create. Dwight is an offensive player but one who needs space to operate. He single-handedly led Orlando to the Finals when he had that space consistently on the floor around him. You have to understand the dynamics of what happened last night. While Dwight is not in the same league offensively as guys like Hakeem he has proven his mettle in big games. This is the Cleveland LeBron criticism all over again. It won't stop until Dwight wins a ring. But it has no more validity than people saying LeBron shrank in big moments when he was in Cleveland.

Absolutely true and last night proved it.
He comes up small against the Clippers/Thunder

I thought that Howard should have a big game (posted in the game thread), but he did not. The point is that Howard had several games with less ten point so far, but not just in this OKC game. I recall that he had this kind games in the playoff vs. Detroit a few years ago. As a superstar, this should not happen more than once or two. Even for a no superstar Yao, he had only one time for a less ten point game if I am not mistaken. This team is depending on Harden too much if Howard can even not score for more than ten point in such an important game.

Most media members don't like Dwight Howard!

    http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=251662

That said, Asik is as good as Howard on defense and on rebounding. Some might argue that he is even better than Howard with a different style. But Howard is miles ahead of Asik on offense.

If you put in Asik, then all the pressure is on the guards to create.

If the coaches can use the game last night to give pointers to Dwight, then it was a good decision to let him play. I want to see more passing between our 4s and 5s. And giving DMo post plays if Dwight's game isn't on.

I really think Dwight should develop a midrange bankshot shades of Tim Duncan's signature move. To keep defense honest

When you look at one game, Skip may have a point.

But if you look at large number of games and career, this is completely ridiculous.

Simply put, Dwight can produce offensive and defensively which is why he is regarded as a very good center. Asik's main skill is mostly rebounding and playing defense. I would even argue that Dwight can play better defense than Asik.

Because one game asik is better. Yet howard played good vs miami, pacers and blazers. Makes sense cause he lost one important game asik is better...

    this.
to say Asik>Howard in big games is stupid cause even if he has worse stats he would attract more defensive awareness thus getting other players open and they fear him more inside the paint than Asik.

However against OKC, it really seems he has some mental problem and Asik don't. Last year Asik had a really good series vs them and even in this game he showed up.

Btw this is the second game in a row Howard plays sub-par imo. After playing really good for so long this season and not having any injury problems we should not worry to much i think..he will get along.

Skip does have a point, or have we all forgotten that time Asik took his team to the NBA Finals?
