Sorry for using the ski jargon. A mogul is one of those big bumps on most of the steaper slopes that is carved out from people turning. They are only on the more advanced slopes and pretty difficult. Grooming is when they run big machines over the snow in the morning to pack it down and level it out. I makes it smoother and easier to ski. Plus it packs down any of the powder from the night before. For me at least powder is much harder to keep your balance on. The color referance is the difficulty level. Green (beginner) Blue, (Intermediate) Black (advanced) Double Black (hardcore).
Cool, gotcha. I'm really looking hard for discounted lift tickets for keystone. Not having much luck though, even on ebay.
Depending where you hotel is in keystone, Breckenridge isn’t too far away. Still I would try and get lift tickets for keystone since it sounds like it is closest. Both of them are much more accommodating to beginning skiers than A-Basin. I wish i knew of a way to get cheaper tickets but I really have no idea. One of the times i went a few years ago we bought them a Denver grocery store but i don’t think the discount was that much. Hopefully someone else around here has a suggestion. Another suggestion is to go to the town Breckenridge some evening. They have a much better selection of restaurants and night life than keystone. If you like beer the Breckenridge brewery is great place to hang out. Great fresh beer made right there and a good night crowd. Some other cool places i remember are a Jamaican pasta place (rasta pasta) and a pizza place (Downstairs at Eric's). Erics also has a great selection of local microbrews.
Do you mean Copper Mountain or Ski Cooper??? Donny- Take my advice - Avoid A-Basin - not a good mountain for beginners Shell out the extra bucks and go to Keystone! Its worth the extra expense. Discount lift tickets - Call these places..... King Sooper grocery Christy Sports: http://www.christysports.com Breeze Ski Rentals: http://www.breezeski.com
Dress warm and cover your head with a wool hat or something. You lose a lot of body heat if you don't. It's cold out there and it's not like you just walk from and to the car or the house. You will be outdoor the whole day. It's more fun if you are more comfortable. Wear clothes in layers so you can take some off when you go indoor for a break. I normally have long thermal underall, a pullover (but a t-shirt is fine too), a sweater, a water-proofed jacket and pants. Gloves and you'll need long thick socks to use under those boots too. At some places the runs of different difficulty levels cross one another. Watch out for the markings for the expert black diamond runs so you won't turn into them by mistake. If you do, you can take off your skis and back track or walk down.
You might wanna consider half day lift tickets. Or you could take my earlier advice where you do 1 full day and 1 twilight (4pm-night skiing). Again, Keystone lift tickets cost so much more because they're good at Arapahoe Basin as well as Keystone.
I called around and I found the lift tickets are $59 a day at any King Sooper’s Grocery. Half day tickets are available for $55 (12-4pm). And twilight tickets are available for $47 (2-8pm) but are only sold on Wednesday through Sunday. We might try and move our trip back a day, so we can buy a night skiing ticket for Wednesday, and a halfday ticket for Thursday. Thanks guys, we might be able to swing this.
We are planning a snowboarding/ski trip around spring break. Should the snow still be good around then? Thanks for all the advice in this thread guys, I am really taking it all into consideration. We might head up to the Keystone area, especially considering the advice in this thread. I haven't boarded in almost 4 years, man I miss it. My poor board sitting in houston and my clothes in a box. Hope this falls through, should be a great time. I have never snowboarded in the US, and so don't know where to go etc. (and price wise).
Just made our reservations for the hotel. This trip should be a blast. Looking forward to skiing Keystone! Thanks to everyone for all the help, I *really* appreciate it.
OK it seems like forever since I first planned this trip but we're finally leaving Tuesday morning. I have one last question.. some of the ladies we're taking want to go shopping, where is the best place that has a bunch of little shops, clothing, nic-naks, souvenoirs, etc all in one place around Keystone? Also, is The Goat 18+ or 21+? We've got two 20 year olds coming with us.. so all the places we go have to be 18+..
i suck at skiing and don't care for it much but i go here: http://www.ski-europe.com/resorts/lech.html?source=G-lec-1 every year.
broken shoulder blade, strained shoulder ligament, mild concussion.. all while nightskiing last night. now im stuck in a hotel bed popping vicodin while everyone else has fun on the trip that i planned and organized. i am so incredibly PO'd right now.
