NBAtalk says: "Our NBAtalk detectives are on the case. Mulder and Scully are coming, too. Here's what we have so far." Trust me, I can assure, I have NO affiliation with NBAtalk other than the fact that I go there when I need a good laugh. (Scully doesn't get into basketball enough to care.) However, I would like to discuss who should win the sixth man award this season. IMHO it should be Mobley. His stats are good but it also has to do with how a player's presence off the bench affects a team and for this reason he is my pick. What do you think? ------------------ The truth is out there.
Well now that Grant is starting again, and Wallace is Portland's 6th man, I think both their limited stay as 6th men eliminate them. Nowitzki is now a starter (eliminating him), and Indiana spreads there bench points around too much. Mobley is definitely a front runner. How could anyone object?
The loves of my life call me a realist. Although some of you may doubt that description upon reading my previous posts. But believe this: Mobley and Houston WILL NOT be highlighted, centered-out, chosen, picked, considered, honored, awarded, or short-listed for any awards by the NBA this year. Sorry. We just do not have the complaint department that "big-dollar advertisers" listen to, or the market share that media people will court incessantly. In short, Mobes could be the second coming of Bob Cousy or Michael Jordan personified .... but he would never get the nod from New York, California, or Florida. (IMHO,anyway.) But I sure appreciate reading any posts about him or any other Rocket worthy of national or league recognition.
As of right now, Mobely should be the frontrunner for the 6th man award. Obviously, like Popeye so eloquently mentioned, the NBA doesn't always reward the worthy. The reason I believe Mobes still has a good chance as of now is because of a few things. 1) McGrady is expected to stay as a starter for the rest of the season barring something unforeseen. At least thats what Butch Carter said. This would eliminate him. 2) Until I came upon this thread I had no idea that Wallace was demoted to the bench in favour of Grant (a questionable move considering Rasheed is having a career year) Although Grant was never in the running, this should eliminate him and his Rasta-man doo completely, and Wallace would not have played enough games to be considered. 3) Marcus Camby is another canditate, but his injury has reduced his chances. He should be back next week, but he'll have to make up a lot of lost ground. 4) Jerome Williams is probably the biggest threat to Cuttino, but the NBA hasn't had a history of favouring the Pistons. 5) Chris Gatling is seeing less minutes in the Mile High City. Its still an open race, and even if McGrady starts from here on in, he may have played enough games or maybe the NBA would jump at the opportunity to hype up Vince's 'lil cuz. (sorry Almu, I don't mean to sound like a conspiracy theorist) Azim da Dream ------------------ No guts, no glory, no brain, same story.
Mobley should win it if McGrady keeps starting. Maybe Ceballos could be in the race if Rodman and Nowitzki keep starting.
Three questions: 1) How many games has Mobley come off the bench? 2)How many games has Mobley started? 3)What are the qualifications for the award? ------------------ Respect Hakeem's legacy. A championship in the hand is worth two in the bush!!
