Greased Lightning is still there, right? I haven't been there in anout 5 years. I used to ride the Lightning like 10 times in a row. Does anyone remember their first ride on the Cyclone? I felt like the structure was goinna break in half. It felt so unstable, but it was awesome. I haven't seen what they've done with Waterworld. I know they expanded, but never bothered to check it out.
yes, Greased Lightning is there. It's awesome though I've only ridden it once. I live in NC but I visit Houston every now and then.... Astroworld sucks as a theme park but atleast its something to do. My first ride on Cyclone was nice. Nice and fast. It seems unstable because its a wooden coaster. Woodie's are made out of wood. (duh!) And they aren't as strong as steel coasters. (duh!) So yeah, you do feel it swaying... but it's been ridden ever since the 20's I believe and it's never collapsed like some people are afraid of. so... "don't worry...." ........... "be happy!"
Actually, the Cyclone was built in the late 60's, I believe. At least according to that one website. The original Cyclone was built in the 20's or something. And I've only ridden the Texas Cyclone with it's huge horrible head guards, and from what I've heard, they're off now! So maybe I'll actually like the ride, I hated it before, it gave me the worst headache ever.
I actually prefer wooden coasters because of the feeling that they are going to throw you off of the tracks. I rode the standup one at Astroworld and didn't like the way it bangs you around.
At Astroworld, well, I'm not a big fan of alot of their stuff. Batman, Mayan Mindbender, Looping Starship, all those suck. When I go, the only stuff I usually ride is Dungeon Drop, Viper, Greased Lightning, Serial Thriller, previously Texas Tornado. And also other more boring and lame like the water rides or lame stuff like XLR8.
Does AstroWorld still have dolphins? I remember they did back in the 80s. Hardly anyone ever knew they were there though.
Nevermind, found out myself: http://www.houstonanimalrights.com/campaign-tsa.html In the last seven years, at least 19 North American marine and amusement parks have permanently discontinued their live dolphin shows or closed down entirely: 1.Sea Arama, Galveston, Texas (1990) 2.Adventureland, Des Moines, Iowa (1990) 3.Paramount's Kings Dominion, Doswell, Virginia (1991) 4.Sealand of the Pacific, Victoria, British Columbia (1991) 5.Paramount's Great America, Santa Clara, California (1991) 6.Six Flags Over Texas, Arlington, Texas (1991) 7.Paramount's King's Island, King's Island, Ohio (1992) 8.Six Flags Over Mid-America, Eureka, Missouri (1992) 9.Sealand of Cape Cod, Brewster, Connecticut (1992) 10.Six Flags Astroworld, Houston, Texas (1993) 11.Six Flags Great Adventure, Jackson, New Jersey (1993) 12.Six Flags Magic Mountain, Valencia, California (1993) 13.Paramount's Canada's Wonderland, Maple, Ontario (1993) 14.Ocean Reef Club, Key Largo, Florida (1994) 15.Ocean World, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida (1994) 16.Steinhart Aquarium, San Francisco, California (1995/1996) 17.Aqua Circus, Cape Cod, Massachusetts (1996) 18.Worlds of Fun, Kansas City, Missouri (1996) 19.Libertyland, Nashville, Tennessee (1990)" I liked those guys
I'm pissed about the SkyScreamer! That and lightning were my classics. Dungeon drop never had the two sirens that I loved. Looping Starship sucks. Always has. If the new ride is similar, then it sucks too!!! I just want River of no return, and Alpine Sleigh ride to come back! Worked in the Enchanted Kingdom in 1988. Back then, most of Alpine's tracks were still there. Even cooler. Security was lax as hell back then. We'd just wait till after midnight, and then we'd snoop all over the damn park. Very cool when you're 16!
I worked at the Excalibur in '94, and the Joust-A-Bout (now re-renamed the Runaway Rickshaw) in '95. I was kind of sad when they took down Excalibur to build the Taz, but it did pretty much suck. Ironcally, I haven't been back since I worked there, so I never got to ride the Taz, or Serial Thriller for that matter. I need to go next time I'm in town.... Maybe I'll come down for Smeg's World Tour.
It doesn't matter!!! Aren't amusement parks about nostalgia??? (sorry, still pissed about skyscreamer)
