Good god, Philly's GM needs to dare to be drug free...

And what is this business about McGrady not being back until mid way through the season? I thought just a few weeks ago they were talking about him possibly even being ready for the preseason?

I'm going to assume you're referring to the McGrady for Iguodala and Dalembert trade. In which case, that's the dumbest **** I ever heard. "If this is what teams around the league are offering"...how much exactly are you expecting them to offer? You want to wait until Boston offers KG, Allen, Pierce, and Rondo for McGrady?

Lebron, Wade, Amare, and Bosh are the only 2010 FA's that are clearly better than Iguodala (no, I'm not including Boozer or Joe Johnson on that list). You'd pass on getting Iggy just to preserve our miniscule chances of getting one of those four players?

And another thing, unless we intend on letting Scola and Lowry walk, or trade Battier for expirings, or do something else to get some guaranteed money off the books, it's not like McGrady's 23m of expiring contract equals 23m of 2010 cap space. On the other hand, if we trade McGrady now, we can bring in 23m worth of players.

Honestly I think this is a great, creative idea. However we might throw in Landry instead of Hayes to make it happen - which would be fine with me. AI jr. could be a better fit than Tmac in terms of mentality; also he's a young allstar who we would commit to comfortably in the coming years.

    THANK YOU !!!!

This is what I have been saying all along letting TMac's contract expire without intentions of resigning him would be bad franchise player management.

If Dalembert's contract were only for one year, I might be interested. I say this only because of the positions played; all else being equal, I'd rather have Tracy as a player.

Tracy's contract is very attractive to a number of teams. The other players would have to be guys we really want to make us go for this. Even if the other players' contracts expired in a year, if we didn't want them, this would not be a good deal.

Not an expert of the 76ers financial situation, but a trade revolving around McGrady for Iguodala and Dalembert seems too good talent wise for the Rockets. I couldn't imagine the sixers wanting it, but I am shocked that a Rockets fan would not want it.

whoa, easy there tiger. I was obviously referring to the original post. When did the trade suddenly become Dalembert + Iguodala for T-mac? That was borne out of pure speculation in this thread. If you actually believe Philly will do that trade then you shouldn't be wrongfully accusing other posters of saying 'the dumbest **** you've ever heard'. Which is a bit exaggerated and harsh, dont you think? ;)

However, if anyone could kindly explain why 23m worth of an expiring contract does NOT equal 23m worth of cap space, I'd be grateful for that.

Keep McGrady. Re-sign him for $40 mill for 4 years. Trade Shane, Landry and expirings for Bosh. Re-sign Scola. Bring in a MLE player this offseason.

    2010
    Brooks
    McGrady
    Ariza
    Yao/Scola
    Bosh

    Lowry
    McCants
    Budinger
    Scola
    Hayes

    Yikes!

I think that is because we are over the cap (about 17 million over). If Mcgrady's 23 million comes off the books, we would thus only have 6 million in cap space to sign someone. If we also allow Pops, Cook, Scola to come off the books, Lowry doesn't take his player option, and assume we take the team option on Hayes and Brooks, we would then have roughly 14 million to offer a big name FA. That isn't even the max someone could offer. We then have the MLE to fill out the remaining spots on our roster.

You can't sign someone past the cap as a FA, however you can trade contracts, granted you are within 25% off the traded salary, if you are over the cap. (See Dallas Mavericks).

    Vintage Italian wine is Rubio.....

Ribeye and nice side dish sounds like a star and a good player off the same team.

And of course the draft picks..

Looks like a 3 team deal.

I agree we are in he driver's seat and will be loaded when the dealin's done.

    '09-10 NBA salary cap = $57.7 million
    '09-10 Rockets roster salary = $86.4 million

    $86.4M
-$23M (tmac coming off the books)
    ---------
= $63.4M (still over the salary cap / cannot sign FA's to more than MLE unless we own their bird rights)

Ah, thanks for the clear and concise explanation. I guess if we really want a big name FA we would need Yao to opt out of his contract too, which is most likely not going to happen.

Still, I don't think trading T-mac's 23m contract will necessarily get us back 23m worth of players and draft picks. Everyone knows T-mac is already halfway down the hill of decline. Morey's gonna get a lot of offers like Dalembert + scrub guard for T-mac and he might not get any better offers than that. But it would still be the better option given our cap situation.

I would love Iggy(scoring and defense) and Dalembert(shot-blocking, rebounding) on the Rockets.
Mcgrady+Brooks is what I would offer.

Imagine a line-up like this for the upcoming season:

    Lowry / ???
    Iguodala / Taylor
    Ariza / Budinger
    Scola / Landry
    Dalembert / Hayes

We would own on the defensive end, and still get our points.
    Easy transition buckets!

Morey may want to consider this trade depending on tmac's real physical condition. If he is no good - move him now while you still can. but if he is good then take a risk with him.

that's why they pay morey the big bucks

This will not happen. Morey has already said he will only make moves that make sense now and in the future. This move doesn't make since even in this dimension. I think the rockets will only trade T Mac for All Star talent and that is not Dalembert.

I totally agree. I'm a student at Temple and I've had plenty of opportunities over the years watching Dalembert. He's a huge waste of money. He can block shots here and there but he's usually soft on d and he tries to take too many jumpers on offense.

I like it, but your forgetting our draft pick, which will probably be mid-to late first round....Greg Monroe, Larry Sanders or Cousins I think might be available at that position, given how strong the 2010 NBA draft is... :D
    Starters
    Brooks
    McGrady
    Ariza
    Bosh
    Yao
    Bench
    Lowry
    McCants
    Budinger
    Scola/Dorsey
    Monroe or Sanders or Cousins
