You can not seriously think you know what the rest of world thinking or not thinking.

You get me wrong. All I am saying let's either play the world's best or call ourselves the Champion of NBA to save a POSSIBLE embrassment. You travel, right? Now say you go to a pub in Spain, and they ask you hey how do you call yourself the champion of world without playing us. What do you say? I guess you probably wouldnt put out the argument you just said here.

Why not? You just claimed to know exactly what the rest of the world is thinking - you said they were laughing, I'm telling you that nobody cares.

Nobody cared when Chelsea lost to DC United or when Barcelona tied Chivas - and those are FAR more popular and well known teams than Philadelphia, and the 76'rs are dogsh-t while Chelsea and Barcelona are arguably the two greatest soccer teams in the world; not one player on DC United or Chivas could even come close to making their practice squads.

I'm sure FCB fans care cause they won, however I bet Allen "Practice" Iverson is somewhat more nonchalant. I wonder if France is in national mourning because the Spurs beat a french team tonight...probably not....

They did, it was called the McDonalds cup, and it lasted from the 80's and 90's. It was hideously boring, it was a series of exhbiition games that nobody cared about, and the NBA won every one. However since nobody cared either here or anywhere else, it was discontinued. Of course I don't know what "POSSIBLE embrassment" you're talking about since no European team is going to invent a time machine and go back to last June and play the Heat in a best of 7.

That would not happen, becaause nobody really cares that much. The last time I was in Spain was spring of 2000. I talked about basketball (baloncesto) with a guy named Frank who was friends with some girls I met in a disco in Sevilla. He didn't ask me that, instead he wanted to talk about the Bulls and Jordan and Shaq, as well as Real Betis, his favorite soccer team. That should tell you something about why the NBA is a global league.

I have a feeling that some people don't understand that the elite European teams are just better than the crappy NBA teams.

ok I just read the recap on yahoo and the sixers missed over 20 foul shots and had over 20 TOs. with those 2 stats it's pretty clear they didn't care about the game, which is sad to say. but hey it is exhibition.

for those interested pinnaclesports.com has lines up on the remaining games. it will be interesting to see the spurs v tel aviv.

Is there any media outside of the US who would claim NBA team is the world champion ?

It's such simple common sense and pure arrogance and stupidity on the NBA's part.

What if, the NBA makes a rule today : Houston rockets can no longer be the "NBA world champion" and let's call the new league "NBA -1".

The NBA-1 champion is the world champion, because, all the best players are playing in that league, etc etc, it has the world best players etc etc.

Interview after Dallas won the 07 "world" championship:
"Dirk, how do you feel to be the world champion ?"
Dirk: "oh it feels great, the NBA -1 has the world best players, Kobe, Lebron, me, Ginoboli etc"

    How would you feel ?

You say, wait!!! we have a pretty good team here in houston, how come Dallas is the world champion !!!
Sorry dude, the "nba -1" IS THE world champion !
It has nothing to do with houston and you !

You say, wait !!! we have a pretty good player, Yao Ming.
Cool, send him to our "nba -1" draft so we can select him, and we would still be the world champion, there is still nothing to do with houston and you !

You say, this is not right ?!?!
some guy: stop whining, nobody cares, it's not all about geography, you can still support Dallas or whatever team and post on their message boards.

That Moscow team looked like at a different level compared with how Clippers played. Now it's just a pre-season game into like 2 days of training camp after a long offseason. But can we at least agree the Euro teams are good. Maybe that self-proclaimed World Champion is a little funny. I dont understand why people are still in this false sense of superiority of 80's 90's.

i don't think anyone that has boldly stated that the Euro teams aren't good. Why wouldn't they be?

    1. They've, theoretically, been together longer than the NBA teams.
    2. They play a different type of basketball and it's the same kind of basketball that the Phoenix Suns play. And I'm pretty sure everyone can agree that the Suns are a good team.

But what false sense of superiority though? Aren't international players the ones that want to play in the NBA? Aren't they the ones that want to leave their cushy life in Europe or Asia for a chance at NBA stardom? If that correlates to the conclusion that the NBA features the best players in the world, then wouldn't winning the NBA championship means that they are world champions? It's not exclusively just for Americans anymore.

Same thing goes w/ baseball and the World Series. Whoever wins is the "world champions" but we all know that latin american teams can flat out play better than Americans in international play because of how each country's team is put together. But at the end of the day, those latin american players still all want to play MLB baseball.

You guys need to know that Clippers were playing back to back preseason games into their 4th day of training camp. Moscow didn't play for 4 or 5 straight days. I saw the game and clearly Clippers were looking tired and Moscow was out working them. I saw clippers would block the ball only for the other team to recover it and get a layup. Clippers weren't looking like a bad team but a tired, out of shape team.

sorry but the best nba team is the best team in the world. weren't two americans leading scorers on the winning teams? trajan langdan?

if you want to believe these wins mean the world is getting better then that's fine. if you want to say these other teams are better than the best nba teams then you are looking at fools gold.

All American sports league call their champs "World Champs" and only the NBA has some justification because they have the best players from every continent, unlike the rest. The NBA is a global league based in America. In "football" (where they use their feet) Barcelona FC is recognized as the best club football team in the world and they don't have to beat club teams from South America, Asia and Africa for people to recognize that. Since teams from those regions are feeder clubs for the European leagues it's pretty much accepted that the best team in Europe is the best team in the world. It's the same with the NBA. Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, Australia, etc are feeder leagues for the NBA and their players all want to play in the NBA. If you have the best of their crop in your league then your champ is the best.
