Jason Thompson for Asik? No, just no. Patrick Patterson came in and stole his minutes last year and up until being traded to Toronto, was playing ahead of him.
I wouldn't mind having Young come off the bench and start Jones either. That's how the 76ers used to use Young off the bench anyway.
How about this as a basic structure for a deal: Toronto In: Asik, Houston 2nd Rd pick, 3rd team 2nd round pick Toronto Out: Lowry, TRoss, Top 10 protected 2014 1st (Top 3 protected in 2015) Houston In: TRoss, Toronto Protected 1st, salary filler Houston Out: Asik, 2nd round pick 3rd team In: Lowry 3rd team Out: Filler, 2nd round pick That satisfies Morey's craving for a young player and a 1st. Ross is in his 2nd year, so this is just about the time that teams start to evaluate whether to keep or let go of a rookie.
Interesting....and appealing. 1. Don't know if Toronto would do it. (Doubt it.) 2. The "filler" in that deal would probably be a non-expiring contract.
Don't know about that. He's averaging 20 minutes a game, and is shooting 40% from the field, 35% from 3, and 78% free throws. He's only getting to the line 1 time a game, and is only averaging 1 assist per game. Rebounding is average to below average. Doesn't look like a franchise builder to me, but could be the type of reconstruction project Morey likes.
Playing off of what the 76er fan said about Toronto being desperate for Asik. Just seems like the type of deal Morey has done before, and may do again if he's really committed to finding a true blue 3rd star. If Toronto really is making a play for a top pick, then protections on a traded pick should help with their concerns. If the filler isn't an expiring deal, then Morey will want someone that can contribute. Deadweight on the roster isn't a luxury we have anymore.
Although TY plays PF, he is a long defensive wing. He can gaurd pretty much any SF in the game, and do it very well. He can stretch the floor as he has been developing his 3 point game and he runs the floor very well. He's sort of a scrapper, he gets his rebounds and doesn't turn the ball over at a high rate. Also he has been to the playoffs a few times. I think TY would be the perfect fit to come of the bench for the Rockets, he can fill the backup PF/SF spots when needed, depending on matchups. A great help and man defender, which will be critical in the playoffs. Of course there are probably better options, but if we can get a pick with TY, I am all for DM to make this happen
Trade 1: (assuming Bucks not tanking or want out of Sanders contract): Sanders and Udoh for Asik and Brewer. The Rockets get their young prospect and become favorites in the west. The Bucks get a much cheaper, high motor, center and wing defender. Henson can return to playing his natural position at the 4. If they want Garcia then they have to throw in a second rounder. They can have Smith for free either way. Don't give the that ish about how Sanders has regressed and is overpaid. You can't teach height, athleticism, and wingspan. He can still run, dunk, block, and rebound the same. Udoh is also a nasty shot blocker who the Rockets can try to flip for a shooter if necessary. Trade 2: Rockets get Gibson, Butler and Patterson Bulls get Asik, Lowry, Garcia (& Ross for for an extra pick) Raptors get 1 pick from each team, Jones, Isaiah Canaan, and Kirk Hinrich Bulls get everything they need to compete and LT savings. Raptors get picks and prospects for two expiring contracts. Canaan could turn out to be Lowry's replacement. Gibson, Butler, and Patterson fill in each and every hole, but it's possible we lose Patterson in the off-season. Trade 3: Asik for Jeff Green, a top 14 protected 1st with the rights to swap picks 8-13. Give them D-Mo for less protection on the pick if they want. But not players who will contribute in the playoffs as less protection won't mean anything since Asik will help them make the playoffs, especially if Rondo returns. Trade 4: Asik and Brewer for Millsap and a future first. Trade 5: Asik for Ed Davis, Kosta Koufos and the right to swap picks.
He's also one of the best pick and roll defenders at the 4 position, which on this team would be valuable.
Philly, I think, is Morey's "safety school" in this case. If nothing else materializes, there is a decent enough deal on the table from Hinkie. This is similar to the Royce White situation, where Hinkie is willing to help out for a reasonable price if Morey could not find other takers.
Houston out: Beverly, Smith, DMo, Asik, 2nd Houston in: Lowry, TYoung, Philly's 1st. Philly out: TYoung, 1st Philly in: Asik, Amir Toronto out: Lowry, Amir Toronto in: DMo, Smith, Beverly, 2nd Toronto goes full tank...I mean rebuild
Trade 5 has legs for Houston, but no for Memphis Maybe with a third team Kosta kofus and ed davis to HOU Asik to Philly thad Young to Memphis But is just an idea and Carl Herrera is write. The 76ers are Morey backup Plan. And he are using it to put pressure in others Asik possible Trade partners
