Oh well, who cares let them be haters. Atleast we do have an ex-Rocket Analyst who supports us still.. Jon Barry!! I knew I always liked him

1."You would take Yao over Shaq??"

"I would Take Yao now over Shaq in his prime" :D :D

2."You have to include the Rockets on that list of elite teams"

3."Yao is definitly an MVP contender this year, by the way I was at the game in Miami when he destroyed Shaq"

    JB for 3!!

While Kenny and Barkley spute their b/s about how T-mac isn't great and How Yao isn't good, about how Yao doesn't make his teamates better yada yada yada.. we atleast have one guy with good judgement.

Well I don't know if the last one is word for word, I just remember him saying he thought Yao was an MVP candidate easily with the #'s he was putting up and that he was at the Game when Yao dominated Shaq

But I loved when ESPN and Walton and all were putting down the Rockets and Yao and hyping Shaq and Waltons just bashing and then JB comes in going totally against what they were saying and speaking otherwise while Walton disagreed and the other dude was all like "I agree" to JB, it was cool getting some love during and ESPN broadcast. Jon Barry owned the crew that night

    My response:

This year, Rockets are 14-6 with T-mac, 1-3 without.

    How bout them apples?

Malone, Barkley, KG, and Nash are great players. Even though they don't have a ring, they still win a lot of games. Put these guys on any other team in the league and their teams will win more than they lose. They are all Hall of Fame players. I can't say that about TMac.

    Well Kenny...

Not everyone can make a scrub like you a better player. Hakeem had to try extra hard just to get some production out of your wimpy @ss.

I am surprised no one ever brings up him getting undressed by Derek Harper in the 94 Finals. That would shut Kenny up real quick. Kenny used to tremble just to bring the ball upcourt. Rightfully so, too, since he would just turn the ball over.

I bet Kenny Smith still has nightmares at night when someone brings up the name "Derek Harper."

both come out of high school, skinny and very athlethic, both can jump out the roof, and they each have above average ball handling skills. that's my take on where the comparisons come from.

Hmm...so Iverson is not a 'great' player, nor is Garnett, nor is Yao, nor is Kobe in the post-Shaq era.

Damn, that eliminates a LOT of supposedly "great" players.

Of course, if there is anyone who knows what 'greatness' entails, it's Kenny Smith.

T-Mac led those Godawful Orlando Magic to the playoffs I think three out of four tries...still, no one can do it alone.

KG, Iverson, and other players with arguably similar casts (or in the case of KG, flat out better teams than anything McGrady had in Orlando) have failed to make the playoffs on more than one occasion.

    It's all perception...

Kenny Smith is 100% correct.....Tmac is NOT a great player...he has all the skills but he is a Tinman.....no heart.

Sure he plays occasionally with passion, but his competitive fire burns VERY low....

This team needs a fiery competitor to compliment Yao....Tmac.....well, he is a gifted athlete, just not a winner.

    Can Vince Young play basketball?

    :D

I scratch my head whenever someone says that McGrady was a selfish player when he was with Orlando. The dude averaged slightly above 5 assists a night along with his 30+ ppg and 6+ rpg. If you take a look at the players around him at that time, it's a miracle that he even got that many assists. I also believe if it weren't for McGrady, Pat Garrity and Andrew DeClercq wouldn't have had jobs in the league.

You know, I used to think Kenny was good. He was the voice of reason to Barkley's voice of stupid crapiness. But now they're just parrots of each other, coming up w/ stupid cliches as their guidelines of what constitutes good and bad. 'They need to have an identity, they need to make their teammates better, they need to score more points in a game than the other team to win.'

According to Kenny's standards (which I am positive was influenced by the GZA himself, Charles Barkley), AI, KG, Arenas, etc. are damn mediocre. Is Shaq even a decent player? If you count drawing double teams so your teammates get open shots, I don't see why Yao and Tmac on the list.
