i think they just refering to his athletcism, which is impressive.

Maybe he looks great in practice though...in game time situations, though, he looks lost

Wait, why wouldn't JVG let Yao work out with Dream? Doesn't makes sense, especially if you have the chance of having Yao become better through a great mentor like Dream. I'm totally disallusioned now

I'm a huge Olajuwon fan, but reasons why the instruction would not be as beneficial as we would hope:

    - Great players can't pass on greatness, especially if they're instructing another athlete whose body is completely different.

    - Yao, with his unique center of balance, inability to jump quickly, and relative lack of foot speed as compared to forwards in this league, cannot execute Olajuwon's moves with enough fluidity and consistency to take advantage of them in a real game.

    - Yao is a developed NBA player in his own right, and all-star players focus on playing their game

    - Hakeem has never worked as a trainer or assistant coach. Even a mediocre NBA veteran who may not have been gifted enough to do certain things out on the floor, can stlil teach someone more by mastering 1) the fundamental mechanics and 2) how do convey it

It was certainly nice to see, though

Oh dear Lord. Now we're going to spend another 4-5 thread pages debunking the fallacy that Ewing was hired to coach Yao all over again.

Yeah. To tell the truth I was more flummoxed by JVG not letting CD work with Yao. That was just nuts. CD is a great teacher and Dream has given him great credit for developing his game.

    Bull: I know Dream!
Dream: why are you wearing that ugly Hornets shirt?

That's kind of a reaching on a vague comment he made about the Rockets.

Bull to Tinman: Duh, I played for the Hornets you know?

Tinman: You did? I thought you live and die Rockets like me?

Bull: If I followed that creed, I would be homeless! Ask Kenny "No Jet" Smith?

Hakeem's not a good teacher. Yao even said he struggled in his workouts with Hakeem in the offseason. They're 2 very different players.

Patrick Ewing is better suited to teach Yao. Also, you can't argue with the work Thibs did with Yao. Yao was dominant under JVG/THibodeau. Why is everyone complaining?

And for those of you who have never played, you want to have only one teacher. Having a lot of different guys throwing stuff at you just makes you even more confused on the court.

Pick a guy, stick to him, do what he says, and see if the results will come. Under Thibs, the results were there for yao.

    Now it's Sikma's turn.

I wouldn't think Yao could understand Hakeem. I don't recall an interview during his entire career where I understood everything he said. Very difficult to listen to. Besides, the most important thing that Yao needs from Hakeem can't be taught, passion. Of course, if Yao had Hakeem's athleticism, the Rockets would have five championships. Just stop for moment and imagine a 7'6" 300+lb Hakeem.

I think there's a few of you that are not seeing the bigger picture with Hakeem and Yao working together early in the summer. Did you hear the way Hakeem talked to Yao? It gave me goosebumps. Yao came to us with no real mentor on the team to show him the ropes on being a dominant center. Duncan had Robinson and Yao really had no one to show him the way since Hakeem was in Toronto his rookie year. It's not just the moves Hakeem was showing him, it was also the attitude, the confidence, the mentality of being a dominant center. Having the opportunity to listen to an all-time great on how he approached the center position is worth more than the moves in my opinion.

    Exactly.
Thats why I suspect why JVG didnt do that for Yao earlier. I know they had Ewing alread as Yao's post coach so he didn't want to disrespect him. Lets hope RA can bring out the best in Tmac and Yao while Hakeem mentors Yao.....now if only Tmac can get his own personal mentor....oh idk Clyde?

I don't see it as a big deal that JVG did not let Hakeem work with YAO. I think he turned out pretty good already. We're talking about ONE practice session here folks. If JVG denied Hakeem an Asst. Coach job to help Yao, then that would have been a problem. Sorry but one tiny session with a legend is not going to transform his game. Not that Yao needs any, he's great just the way he is.

You guys REALLY need to get a life. You are ACTUALLY agitated over something that Matt Bullard says on Sirius radio no less without a shred of proof that it is true or not. Your time would have been better spent listening to Howard Stern. And while you're at it, please find one (a life) for all of those folks who are screaming like teenaged girls for Stevie! Stevie! to get some playing time. How quickly they (choose) to forget the events of 4 years ago...
