Not sure why JVG would have his pick of whatever job he wanted. Dallas is a great job - good talent and an owner who will do anything to win. If he really wanted to coach, I don't see how that's not at the top of the list.

If JVG is in Phoenix, Shaq is not.

The question I would have is why wouldn't Rick Carlisle be at the top of your list if you want a JVG-type coach. More recent success and cheaper.

Ian Eagle is a very well-known broadcaster. He's done tennis, pro and college basketball, baseball, lacrosse, and football. I met him a couple of months ago. He's relatively young too. Is he credible? Definitely. I however would ask the OP to double check and make sure this is exactly what Ian said.

JVG is overrated here. In his first year the Rockets only won 2 more regular season games than their previous season. Also they jumped from having the 2nd worst defensive FG% in the league to having the 5th best while still under Rudy after Yao joined the team.

It wouldn't make sense, Dallas is horrible in half court offense besides Dirk shooting over people. They'd need a fast paced coach for it to work (like Adelman or D'Antoni ironically)

I really like JVG. He's one of my all time favorite coaches. I hope he does not take the job because I dont think i can see him on the Mavs sideline. Cuban and him will definitely clash.

Imagine every time that JVG sees Dirk flop...

The relationship between Dirk and JVG would be more of a problem, JVG will try to force Dirk to play TD's style. Also, Kidd will have to shoot a lot 3 in JVG's system, that's not going to be pretty.

Um, whatever. Mavs have crossed JVG, Westphal, and Donnie off the list of possible coaches. Carslisle is at the top of their list right now

Oh that breaks one of the cardinal rules of fandom!!! Where's that Bill Simmons list of fan "no-no's"

and I am sure the Mavs crossed JVG off the list because he said no, "Hell no" probably

To be quite honest, I think JVG would be PERFECT for Phoenix. Sounds crazy but just think about it:

Creating offensive schemes/sets aren't his forte. If he had, oh I don't know, a two-time MVP and a top 5 PG running the show, it wouldn't be hard at all. I can see him just letting Nash run the offensive show since he was pretty much doing that anyways it seems.

Meanwhile, Van Gundy can get that team into playing respectable (not necessarily good) defense. Have Kerr make some trades for Battier-esque guys and they're set.

It's almost akin to the Indianapolis Colts: You have the QB managing the offense while the head coach takes care of the defense.

JVG would go crazy trying to get Nash, Amare, and Shaq to play defense. I don't see it.

It's improbable, not impossible. It's all about getting the right system in there. Boston Celtics were supposedly the best defensive team in the regular season but their starting lineup has no clear cut bonafide defender other than Garnett.

I would say Rajon's is defined as a defensive PG. So that's two out of five.

KTCK 1310 TheTicket reported this morning that JVG has already turned down the Mavs head coaching position. Supposedly, Cuban is looking at Carlisle & Pitino.
