One side of me says you would trade our hard-working, straight as an arrow, consummate defended minded professional for a r****ded stoner who got exposed big time in the playoffs?

The other side says but Battier is just a role player albeit a great role player. However, we're talking about another swingman that gives you 20 points and 7 boards.

Reverse roles for a second and imagine if Battier was a Mav and Howard was a Rocket... I'd imagine Battier doing a pretty good job of keeping Howard in check all the while drawing some charges, making smart plays and knocking down some 3's. Howard might make some good plays and get points but he is not the guy we need.

    I'd keep Battier.

I think it'd be pretty funny to see it happen just for the JVG vs Cuban soundbites that are bound to happen.

I was surprised and of course very pleased with the failure of Josh Howard in the playoffs more than anything else. He was consistent for them against GSW last year when everyone else was collapsing.I wonder what was cause for his indiscipline and why did he give up so easily?

I feel that he was much more dangerous when he couldn't shoot from outside when we played against Dallas in the playoffs. I feel that now days he mostly relies on his jump shots instead of going to the basket.

Hmm .. just throwing this out there: Battier+Hayes for Josh Howard? With JVG in Dallas, that might appeal to him.

I hope he takes it, that way the Rockets will own Dallas even longer.

Ha...we could probably pluck anybody we want from their roster for Battier if that happened.

Seriously though, it'd be painful to see. I have a lot of respect for JVG, so I'd hate to see him on the Dallas sideline. I hope the Bulls give him a look...

Whats the word on D'Antoni in Phoex?

I think thats the job for JVG. He has 2 post players, and a couple of athletic wing guys that has the potential to play good defense. Same with Denver if Karl is let go.

I agree that JVG/Cuban just doesn't seem like a good pairing.

If Saunders is let go in Detroit, I can see that position tailor made for him also.

jvg would shoot himself if he had a team with defenders like shaq, amare and nash.

I think the thought there is, potential, at least with Amare, and somewhat with an aging Shaq. Bell is a natural defender, and Barbosa, with his quickness, could be a great wing defender. Nash is a sieve on D, not much he can do there.

One way or another, JVG gets even the worst defenders to D up.

Which will be to his advantage when he has to sneak away after shanking Cuban.

i think jvg as the defense genius that he is realizes that there really is no potential. he probably sees defensive potential in a different way.

no doubt he could teach them some defense. but i doubt he has the desire to do so.

I think Dallas might be more likely insofar as he's been pretty adamant about not moving his family/daughter out of Houston while she's in school.

There is an heir apparent in Detroit.

Again - who is Ira Eagle? Is he at all credible?

Yes,that's what I noticed too. He stopped going to the basket. If you can't balance shooting and driving then you're in trouble.

    Who is the heir apparent?

I think Eagle is a generic PBP guy. I know he does NFL games on CBS w/ Solomon Wilcox. When CBS picks teams, I believe he is the last one chosen judging by all the Texan games he does. :)
