Let me start by saying I couldn't believe how bummed out I was last night upon hearing the news. He was one of those opponents you hated ...but deep down, you really wanted on your team. And damn, did I enjoy him as a Rocket. We'll miss you Chuck. [This message has been edited by Redglare (edited December 09, 1999).]
As much bashing as he got on this site this year, he still was at the top of his usual categories. He sure was a competitor, go-to guy, and savvy player. He grew his game over the years, and I only started liking his play when he was at Phoenix. Now his time is over, he will be known as an all-star hall of famer. NOT TOO BAD!
Too bad I can't see CB push Malik Rose or JR.Reid around like toys any more, on the other side I think CB will manage to be a happy man. I would vote for him as Alabama governor if I live there.
My prayers go out to Charles for the full recovery from his injury and for a successful rest of his life. I wish we could have gotten him his ring but his career was great even without it. He seemed to have the championship thing in perspective already. I look forward to him staying around the rest of the season and mentoring our young players. I'll miss you Chuck. May God Bless. ------------------ Moses begat Sampson, Sampson begat Hakeem, And Hakeem led us to the promised land

thx skinner...good to see the tributes on a dreary day... my two cents: Barkly is a class act, much maligned and misunderstood, because he simply didn't care if people misunderstood him. A man that teammates listen to. I'm sure everyone he comes in contact with understand he is a man who cared about his work, his teammates and his life outside work--and enjoyed it all. If only more people could experience that approach to work, we would all be as lucky as him. As one person I met said: "We will see another Jordan again before we see another Barkley." ie Jordan's talents, as unique as they are, are less unique than a 6'4 1/2" man with heart and grit fighting it out in the low post in the NBA, and dominating. Compare what Barkley did another short low post star--Adrian Dantley, and that comparison shows there is no comparison to what Barkley achieved with so little. It was truly a joy for me to watch him play. Barkley, more now than ever, will continue to show this country how much a class act he is. I see a man who loves to make people laugh and connecting with them. We will see more of that now. Last comments: Remember his remark about how Payne Stewart jumped in his hotel bed at 6:30am to drag him to their tee time. That says a lot about how much people enjoy his company. And he calls himself the luckiest man in the world. cheers Charles... [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited December 09, 1999).]
