Was Singleton not good enough, or did he simply not care enough. Either way, this doesn't really impact anything. I personally don't have any issues with people smoking weed, but rules are rules, and this dumbass certainly seems to meet the stereotype of the lazy pothead.
It certainly appears to be an issue of just not giving a s***. He had the talent...at least it appeared that he did. The moment he got that contract, it was Operation Shut Down time. He hasn't done crap since. If you were to make a list of Luhnow's screwups, while a short list, this would be at or near the top.

Agreed, that contract was a risk worth taking, little downside. And Singleton wisely signed it. Someone should let Bud Norris know that Singleton was the winner in that contract.
Depends on if the contract is part of why he failed. I highly doubt it, but maybe $10M was enough for him to say screw it.
I get that its in his contract and so the league has legal right to suspend him. But does the league realize its legal in what, 7 or 8 states? More to come? Are we going to punish guys for alcohol and caffeine usage as well?
Still illegal by federal law. Still in the CBA. I do hope the sports world (and more importantly the Country) comes around. I don't smoke myself, but we should be free to.

Pot, a performance-enhancing drug. I am trying to think of a sport of which pot would enhance the performance. It would have to be some sort of eating contest.
Nobody called it a PED. He failed a simple illegal drug test, which is actually a thing many of us have had to take at some point.
MLB differentiates b/t PED's and "drugs of abuse" (different testing protocols and punishments), pot is in the latter group.
