Has no one read The Last Picture Show? I was under the impression that in small towns, this really wasn't that uncommon.
What's sad is that I actually know more than one person that has done this. There is a saying in the country about cows being "stump broke". I am from the big city (Houston) so this was completely shocking to me, but I guess that it can get lonely out on the range. The bad thing is that the people that have done this are fairly normal and that they did it as an adolescent.

It still boggles my mind that people actually do this. I mean, could you really be so desperate (and amoral) that you would stick it in a cow???!? Without thinking about what everybody would think if they saw you. Without thinking about what the cow would think. But, according to some of these people, if you're a kid from a rural part of the country and you get desperate, you don't just use your hand (apple pie, tube sock, whatever) like everybody else?!? Is anyone on this bbs from a rural area - can you verify? (still hoping it's all just an urban legend) (also wondering why that kid who got caught didn't think to get away from the road first)
Maybe the guy had no arms and the cow was prettier than all the girls in his village. Hmm, I wonder what the girls in that village do...anyway...forget about it.
OMG!!! It's not like he did it with a sexy animal! He chose a cow? How disgusting. Now where can I get my hands on one of these bad boys? SEXY BEAST!!!! Now that is something I could lay into.
