If you look around the basketball to the left of CD, the little picture on the table, and Yao's head, there's color distortion around it too! must be all chopped!!! WAIT A SEC, CD himself has the same color distortion! HE MUST BE CHOPPED TOO!!!! This interview must've never taken place! Of course it can't possibily be that the color discoloration is due to horrific picture compression when showing colors of large contrast. Like some of the other posters said, it's probably the projected depth chart of the people still under contract. Sina gets a bad rep becuase of sensational writing and meaning lost due to translation, but they wouldn't go as far as making up a picture that can be so easily disprooved.
This is the link to the article It was posted today around 16:13 HKT and I noticed it at 16:30. The reporter is "Wen Mu", same guy who reported that Van Chancellor would probably be our assistant coach next season and I started a thread for that then became a joke in this forum. They didn't have those photos when I read the article. Since Pickymen asked for the link, I get back to Sina but found that they took away the hyperlink from Sina Home page now. However, their NBA home page still have it therefore I posted it here. Frankly I don't trust this guy as well or I would have started the thread already. I really don't understand this guy, apparently he did talk to Carroll Dawson, and other photos taken are those players joined Rockets workout yesterday which backed-up his story. But why was he making up stuff in his article? Edit: My bad, actually you can still find the link at Sina's home page, it just didn't appear in the same column I first saw it.
You guys never saw a highly compressed jpeg image with sharp edge on white background? Anyway, no link to the original article is bad.
only way this could have happened is compression AFTER photoshopping, which is why the photoshop edits are obvious as blurs around the text. Oh well who cares. Bowen is not coming back, i hope
Here's the entire article translated. Cut me some slack for that I have the chinese ability of a third grader I've bolded the part that looks important to me. Sina Link Sina Sports Beijing Time 6/3 Houston Information, Rocket General Manager Dawson gave SINA an exclusive one hour interview in the afternoon of a very busy day. In the interview, Dawson spoke about the current player’s contract and thoughts on the up coming draft. At the end of June is the annual NBA draft, Dawson is full of hope about the draft. “Very soon I will discuss with the proper personnel about the draft. We must utilize our 8th pick very well. There are a few potential draftees within our sight and soon many players will come to Houston for a workout. we will seize this opportunity to prepare a new weapon for next season.” Before we arrived at Dawson’s office, we met 4 draftees for Rocket’s workout which includes University of Illinois’s forward James whom supposedly Rockets is very high on. From Stanford and Denver, Matt and Nicolas also performed to Rocket’s approval. Seeing the 10 Rocket player’s name on the board behind Dawson, uncertain to what it means. Through Dawson’s explanation, then understand that this seemingly plain white board actually hints at Rocket’s next step in personnel plan. The ten players on the whiteboard is the players Rockets has for certain signed under contract. They are: Yao Ming, McGrady, Howard, Mutombo, Bowen, Swift, Hayes, Head, Alston, and Sura. What about the players not on the board? “Those player not on the board, unfortunately will not remain in the Rocket squad next season” The lack of Wesley and Bogans is surprising, but this shows that Rockets will focus on the shooting guard position in the summer. Maybe in the draft, Rocket’s first priority is a shooting guard. Dawson also said that some current NBA player also expressed interest in joining the Rockets. Past Rocket player Francis and Mike James has already expressed interest in joiningg the rockets. “The Rockets welcome good players like Francis, but we can’t possibly afford his 15 million dollar contract, that is one problem. Regards to James, if salary and other issues are a fit, his return to rocket is still a possibility” Looking around Dawson’s office, besides the conspicuous poster on Rockets championship, there are many decorative trinkets from China. A red peace Chinese tie brings a sense of cheeriness. Holding a miniature Shanghai Bay view statue given by his Shanghai friends, Dawson reminisced the his good memories of Shanghai. Dawson looks forward to visit Shanghai after he retires. “I am still Rocket’s General Manager. I will be in this position for 16 more months. Even after leave the General Manager position, I will still serve as a advisor for the Rockets. I wish I could go to china for a personal vacation so that I have more time to experience the Chinese culture and sights.” Dawson said. Finally, when we say good-bye, Dawson wished to bring his gratitude to China. “As the General Manager of the Rockets, I wish to express thank to Sina web-friends and Chinese basketball fans for their support of the Rockets, Belive in Yao, believe in the Rockets, let us all look forward to the success of the next seson’s Rockets.” As usual with all translated works, take it with a big grain of NaCl. ~Jeff
WTF. Does every sina article have to decend into pinpoint deconstruction of their veracity. Why are people talking about that picture being photshopped, which truly makes no sense whatsoever (color distributions? sharp edges? come on). The question shouldn't be whether that pic is shopped, but if CD really said that everyone who is not on that board isn't coming back. Besides, playing junior detective and screaming foul at the evils of sina smacks of such screeching righteous indignation. Just take the info with a grain of salt, file it away for future reference, and see how the off-season plays out. Whether the report is correct or not, it's not that big of a deal.
having worked in photoshop/ graphics manipulation programs in general for over 5 years I can say that that picture is no way photoshopped, the reason for the artifacts is a crappy camera or the picture being way to compressed.
If this is true and thats the limit of CD and JVG's thinking , they both need a jolt of electricity to the head and lES should administer it! Because they are forgetting how bad we were this last season. They need to watch the playoffs and them they might understand that we are three years away from building a championship team.
I just took another gander at the photo with the names on the wall. I can see the edges arround the names and arround Carrol Dawson where they are pasted onto the photo.
geez ... it doesn't take a supercomputer to see it was photoshopped. Just blow the pic up a little, and you'll see discolored squares around each name that was dragged onto the pic. Compression wouldn't cause it to be a square like that. If anyone is concerned, just use any editor and magnify it, you'll see.
Why would Dawson completely rule out Wesley and Bogans returning in an interview? And since when does Chuck Hayes have a contract for next season? When did that happen? Something's fishy here ...
I say this picture is fake too. From the angle that the reporter had to look up to take this picture, James Augustine (6'10") has to be at least 10 feets tall.
