Oh, I clicked the link once again. I found the content was changed. I'm pretty sure sina has edited the article. I don't know why it's edited. It made it more likely to be a fake news.
The original article was like, as I remember, CCTV commentator Yang Jiang (楊健) heard from an insider during a dinner saying Rockets refused to give Yao a 6 years contract.
I googled once again. Found this news is supposed to be almost the same source as the original article. Here is the link. Enjoy.

Sina has next to NO credibilty.

But...considering the questions DM has about Yao's recovery, I think a 4 year deal, right now, should be the maximum.

I don't think Rockets fans can handle 6 years of Yao playing awesome for half of the season, and then having to "shut it down" (T-mac's favorite phrase) right before the playoffs.

Yao's surgery and recovery leaves all sorts of speculation. If you lock him up for too many years, you may have a Michael Redd situation on your roster.

this offer/rejection makes a lot of sense... it might be real.

yao is obviously not worth a 6 yr contract atm... at most 4 so good job by dm

You know its the same story with the Yao fan club. Houston was an expansion team pre-yao. Big time fa's want to come here because the china money. Its the same every year and if morey and les thinks and act along this belief, they will never win a ring. I know its sina, but morey would fall into the dumbass category if he's even thinking about an extension.

This is what worries me the most, giving Yao a contract extension before having a chance to see if his feet can hold up.

Trade him to Cleveland for Lebron, sign Bosh, build for the championships to come.

I would hesitate to give Yao a 6-MONTH contract right now...

I'd give Yao a 4 year MAX contract and trade him for anything available.

My first thought is that this means Yao is taking a paycut. I think it'd really help the team next year if he did take a paycut. Of course Yao's team knows it too and that's why he's pushing for more years.

it doesn't matter whether the news is fake or not. the fans' attitude here is beyond what i can understand.

please be realistic. this is a free market. the value is based on demand and supply. if you don't think he is worth the max deal, there are bunch of teams that will think he is worth. all of your reasons sound good only in your corner. if it's that simple, we shouldn't sign any contract longer than 1 year with any player. unfortunately, we are in a real world. perfect means nothing.

if we show him a door, do you know what it means to rox. his salary will be off the budget but rox will not have enough space to sign another mega player through free agent market since we have to re-sign scola and kyle. w/o yao, i don't think rox has anything that can attract another mega star through S&T. w/o yao, it would be very surprised to see les will not lose money when the stadium is not full most time.

of couse, we can start to rebuild the team if it is what fans here want.

I like the post that say's we sign him to whatever length, the issue is how much money and how many incentives can the Rockets put in the contract. Yao's heart is 82 games plus playoffs, but his body isn't. Escalators on regular season and playoff games plus production not just on the floor should be required.

We don't need a 7'6" stiff collecting checks looking like a broke down version of Shaq and Ilgauskas combined.

Bottom line if we're not in the WCF or Finals it doesn't make sense to lavish that type of contract on Yao. Your point about the stadium not being full is minimal to Les. The issue is the amount of Rockets stuff sold externally that fattens his wallet.

So Les, could decide that stay in the middle of 2nd round exit and selling a lot of merchandise with Yao or actually blowing it up and trying to win a title within the next 10 years.

Except for when they can be trusted though... SINA has broken stories before. Like when Juwan Howard's season was over.

If this is true ( I doubt it), it has to be about max contract. Otherwise, why bother for Yao to opt out this year?

it really doesn't matter. if he chooses to option out and you don't give him a max deal, he just walks away then rox gets nothing. if rox wants either to keep him or to get back sth through S&T, yao will, anyway, get a max deal.

don't forget Ilgauskas has been playing 7-8 years w/o problem. cavs might be a team that is willing to do S&T with rox. do you expect what we can get back from cavs? i guess bunch of trash plus a first round pick. is it what you want?

Why bother with the extension now, let him play till FEB deadline to see what we get.

If he plays well, sign him to 2-3 year contract, if not ship his ass off.

sold externally? pipe dream. no one knows how les is getting his money. if you think his wallet's never gotten help from yao's influence, you're still living in your corner. tell me how many teams can frantically spend.
