I fully agree with Yao, he has a legitimate beef with his teammates not dishing him the ball more in the 2nd half of that game, so no complaints there. However, as I said, seems like he chose a 'safe' venue to express his views, that's IF what SINA reported was in fact true.
I think it's not really just hiding his views from US press, my gut feeling is that he's just more comfortable to talk to Chinese press in Chinese. It takes time to change that. I don't want him just to say the diplomatic things in US, but I guess it's a somehow a start. Calling teammates out openly is not always a bad thing, remember the Olympic games? Yao called his teammates out openly, he received lots of criticism from outside, also from some officials, but his teammates reacted positively. That being said, it was like an outburst when the frustration built on, the Spurs game was just too frustrating for him. In the articles, if it's true, it said that he threw his jersey away, and didn't go to shower, but sat there for a while with a sad face etc etc. The guy has pride and wants to win. I don't think teammates will get mad at him for criticizing them, even to a foreign press. Remember, what Bill said in the spurs game? He is so unselfish, that if he's in foul trouble, Deke played 20+ mins with good performance, he would be so happy for Deke, even more than his own well-doing, something like that. I would never be mad at a teammate like that.
Who's to say that JVG, Yao, and the rest of the team haven't discussed this situation amongst themselves? Yao was angry and threw down his jersey, HERE, not in China. Surely the team knows that it was unnacceptable to not have Yao involved in the second half of the Spurs game. I EXPECT that JVG would have brought that to everybody's attention. If he didn't, then we need a new coach. If our guards don't want to defer to Yao, then they should pack their bags and quit wasting our time. We need Yao to man up, and be more of a leader on the court. He's showing the attitude and his mindset right now, that he knows what he needs to do, and he believes that he can do it, and he's putting forth the effort to do so. Give me the damn ball!...........or no more picks for you....
AMEN, AMEN, AND AMEN. THIS IS A GOOD REACTION FROM YAO. Yao clearly gets angry throws 球衣 the strange teammate does not pass a ball: 有劲 causes not to suppress is really uncomfortable
You are quite right. I live now in Shanghai where Yaoming took his time before going Housten. Yaoming is a superstar in China, so everyword out of his mouth would be a big news which would being put on the portals like SINA,SOHU, NTES and so on. Sometimes, some sporting media, will produce a long, long article based on only one careless whisper from YM and combined mainly with the author's self imagination, with the intention to make Chinese reader fun, proud or something else. This is very ordinary for those overseas NBA fans who love their national hero playing in the league. For example, the french newspaper ever complained why Tony Parker is not the NVP in the spurs, instead of TD. I tell your guys not fully believing the articles from portals like Sina. I know YM, he is a very, very good man who would not blame any other teammates before blame himself. However, everybody has temper. Maybe the whisper after a losing game, "why they don't pass me the ball", finally turns out to be the article you see. It is not whining, it is misunderstanding, for the cultural difference between U.S.A and China.
From what I have seen, Derek Anderson is a main part of the problem. I don't like the way he plays at all.
Might as well get Yao the ball more - can't hurt. But watching the SA game - I think Yao wasn't getting as deep as he was in the first half. Probably tired.
I think what Yao did was right. He talked to the media, but he did not criticise any player by name in particular. If he did it by name, it would be different. He's just kind of stating the facts, he's frustrated because he felt like he could do a lot of damage in the 2nd half, but the ball was not passed to him, and combine with the way we lost the game, Yao felt like he has a lot to give but can not do anything because the ball was not there.
I'm still waiting for the time when Yao would just man up, and played without regard to getting foul out or getting suspended or getting tired. Don't give a fck about what media or Chinese people perceive of you, just be a monster and kill anybody that dares to play dirty. Just play, with his talent we should win a lot of the games. Just play like that's his last game ever, be more reckless. I hope it's gonna be soon, if Yao play like Artest, we're golden.
Sohu, host and sponsor of Yao's official website, a media which Yao went to their interview room everytime when he's back to China, also post the same news. So at my best guess, this is true. It won't take long before Yao scream to his teammate on the court of in public (in English of course) demanding for the ball. Let's wait and see. After all, he's done it before in the Chinese national team.
oh this quote can be misconstrued in so many ways. anyway, the big dog wants to eat! someone better feed him the ball! time to unleash the dragon!
do you know what he said is the game vs Spur, he had 18 pts with 16 shot in first half, however only 1 shot whole 2nd half.
Hey Rol618, You should really re-read LegengZ3's post before commenting: "Well, he got 21 shot attempts (Not counting the FTs) last night, so I guess he got his point across."
How do you know he didn't tell his teammates about his frustration? How many games has Yao been the focal point in his career? And how many games did it take for Tmac or Kobe or KG to carry their teams to winning seasons? Also, talking to a Chinese reporter is not talking to a "foreign press" OK? Last time I checked, Yao is still born and raised in China. What's wrong with expressing your feelings to someone from your own country when you are frustrated in a FOREIGH country? Talking **** behind the back of your teammates... I admire the imagination of some of you guys. I'm fascinated about Yao speaking out. Finally he wants to be the man and carry the team. He may have failed to do it so far, but he's trying, trying very hard. I want him to concentrate on being more aggressive, more passionate, and ignore the stupid criticism suggested by some stupid fans.
I have a reponse for you. But it is posted in another forum, in German. Look, I love Yao and I know he generally has great respect for his teammates. What he is doing--talking to the press about the team instead of confronting them directly--is done all the time by other athletes. Kobe does it. Shaq does it. Dirk does it. But IMO that kind of action is passive-aggressive crap and has no place in team sports. Yao is definitely no where near as bad as some of the other players I have mentioned. In fact, this is the first time he has ever done this, and we're not even sure if this story is true. But if it IS true, then I am a little disappointed in Yao. Everyone of us, be him a YOF or ROF, wants Yao to confront his teammates and step up into the star role that is his to take. Now do we want him to do it face to face like a man or go cry to the press like a politician? I was talking about the press in the context of Yao's relationship with his teammates. The fact is, it will be harder for Yao's teammates to respond to his criticisms because they are less likely to hear about the comments in a timely manner due to its foreign nature (yes, the team is in America and the Chinese press is foreign to Americans.) I'm so glad that we can discuss this like civilized people. It all boils down to this: If someone has something bad to say about you, how do you want them to approach you? The answer to that question is the answer to this thread.
nice guys finish last last, maybe cajones can be grown, get angry big fella, but make sure you are ready to carry the load, which means no more soft stupid stick your hands in fouls
