    that is messed up, when did we start picking on people that can't speak english, i mean if we're gonna start, we should prolly start out with some other race first...

    That's a tough question. "Spread talent" teams may be harder to maintain. If a bunch of guys start getting lucrative offers from other teams - then the whole thing can unravel. How the heck do the Spurs do it?

    With Rockets general manager Carroll Dawson calling the signing of center Yao Ming to a long-term contract the offseason's top priority, Yao said he hopes to sign with the Rockets.

    "I would like to," he said. "I really like it here. If there's a contract, I would like to sign."

    Yao is signed through next season, with the Rockets holding an option to match any offer Yao should receive as a free agent after that. But the Rockets can use this summer to sign Yao to a long-term deal that would begin in 2006-07.

    The length and value of the contract the Rockets could offer would be determined in collective bargaining.

    Yao said he was happy to be unsure about how he would spend his summer, but it sounded as busy as ever, filled with medical procedures and training for an international competition.

    Depending on the results of an MRI, Yao likely will have surgery in San Francisco to remove loose particles from his left ankle. That would lead to a rehabilitation and a training period in Houston.

    Yao said he also planned to play for the Chinese national team in the Asian Games, which begin July 19 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
