Well, first of all, Dirk scored slightly more than Yao. Secondly, Lakers vs Pistons was a good example of what you are talking about I think.

And if Yao got the same treatment from the Refs that Dirk gets...Yao would have 200 points.

Why? The Rox are going to max him. It's not like Yao left any $ on the table. There's a reason teams like the Hornets, Hawks and BobCats have big FA $ this summer....they stink.

yeah you'd have to think shaq and kobe outscored the pistons' high scorer. they may have both outscored duncan the year before but i'm not sure on that.

What % of Flopitzki's points were from the line?

In any case, the sooner we get this done, the better.

Yao was much better than Dirk in the series, no doubt about it. Yao shot about 65% from the field, mostly on dunks and layups against the small Dallas lineup inside. Dirk shot 35% from the field, hardly a "valuable" player's stat. He stunk it up, Yao was very good inside.

We had the best 2 players in the series indeed. But that ONLY magnifies how badly our role players were outplayed in this series. The Rockets have a DRASTIC drop in talent from McGrady and Yao down. Dallas didn't have that problem.

The Lakers, despite having the two best players in the Finals last year, were (pretty much) SWEPT by a much deeper team with "spread" talent on its squad.

So that again raises the question: Would you rather have a team with a couple of superstars as its foundation? Or would you rather have a team with a lot of depth and lot of above-average players, but no superstars? (although clearly Rasheed Wallace, Rip, and Billups are very productive players with all-star talent, but still are not superstars in the league of Shaq and Kobe)

Depends on how that abover average players team is built. The way Dallas is built, they have no chance of getting a ring, while the Pistons have already done it. The main difference, Pistons are built on D, while the Mavs are still an offensive team, always will be no matter what AJ tries to tell them. If the Mavs and the Pistons met in the finals, the Pistons would win no doubt.

When the reporter stated that "The Rockets would sign a long contract with him first of all...", I am pretty sure his source is not from the Rocket organization but from a speculation in yesterday's Houston Chronicle article entitled "The Rocket has a foundation" where the author opined that Rockets's first priority should be signing Yao to a long contract this summer.

Anyone know what the main Warriors board is? Do they have a thread on this yet?

CD is on record stating they are freeing up cap space to offer Yao the max. That's the reason they got rid of Mo Taylor because both Moochie and Baker will be off the books when it's time to pay Yao.

you are probably right, but from an agents standpoint, since they get a cut of whatever their client makes, they want to have as much leverage as possible. Agents are one of the primary reasons you see mediocre guys get signed for long term contracts.

    Pretty sure it's Warriorsworld.net, JV.

Hey, this is no surprise to 99% of the board. And if any of you watched the first game between the Suns and Mavs, the Suns were driving to the hoop at will. It was gruesome to watch, I'm sure, for all those demented Mavs fans, and as clear an example of the value of Yao, and Deke, as one could want.

Damn... I wish we had moved on. We match up much better against the Suns, in my opinion. Oh well.
