JVG should reinvent Rudy's merit scheme and replace those red flags with little pieces of green paper with pictures of Benjamin Franklin. I bet that would really motivate Yao.

I can't believe Yao believes in this kindergarten crap. Yao needs to be motivated by a desire to become one of the greatest players in the game and not by some mickey mouse gold star merit system.

Yao will not directly say I like positive reinforcement better than negative reinforcement. I hate people cussing at me in front of my teammates. He just sort of give an example to get the message across. It's kind of Chinese way to put things.

Sure, the flag positive reinforcement things sounds kind of juvenile, but if you think about it, it's no different from high school and college football players putting stickers on their helmets whenever they make a tackle or other good play. I wonder what the other players think of Jeff Van Gundy. If they feel the same as Yao does, his time in Houston might not extend past this year if they don't perform in the playoffs.

omg this thread is hilarious :D

I just think that once Yao gets used to his players, coaches and surroundings, and it feels like a family he will play with a lot more confidence.

I've read the original Chinese version of the "headache" translation at the beginning of this thread and I doubt its accuracy. It appears to me that the Chinese reporter is 24 hours with Yao Ming, like he's Yao's eyes and ears.

No, it doesn't. But his actions on the court does. Other players abuse him because he lets them. If Yao would send some dirty players on the ground, and start shoving people like he did in the olympics, people will stop messing with him. Players will think twice before getting close to him to strip the ball. They will think twice before jumping into him.

Right now people are sticking their whole upper bodies against Yao on double/triple teams/rebounds. That's Yao's space. You do not let other people invade your space like that. No on dares to do that to Shaq. It's not worth it to have broken ribs just trying to draw a foul.

Remember that foul on Ben Wallace by Artest? People do that to Yao all the time. He can't stand for that. He can't depend on Steve or JJ to stand up for him. He won't get any respect for that.

If you played basketball you'll understand what I mean. Some players lets you abuse them, while others, you respect their space. It's rough in the post.

    Stop being a PUSS Yao.

btw, Yao is my favorite player.
