Saw someone had translated the whole article on realgm...

20 points/13 rebounds !! Sitting in front of his own locker (in the changing room), Yao Ming looked again and again into the wrinkled stats sheet: his 6th individual double-double for the season, and a narrow 1-pt win over the Philidelphia 76ers. He looked jubilant on his face. "Finally I can have a good night sleep tonight". Using Yao Ming's own words, it was a relief to stop the losing streak of 5 for the team. Of course he had not forgotten to run up to his coach JVG to congratulate him on his 300th career win, even though JVG would not be as relieved and relaxed as Yao Ming as he was under tremendous pressure.

Prior to this match, the Rockets were 6W 11L, and headlines such as "Yao Ming is A Softie" appeared on the local Houston Chronicle. Yao Ming did not bother to make any response. He knew better than any other people that it would be important for his team to win and he performed by producing remarkable stats. He hoped that win would come after the Mavericks game on Dec 2nd.

"I think I am starting to see a beam of light in the darkness". Yao Ming started not to blame himself after the Mavericks loss. Instead after the Mavericks loss, Yao Ming started to feel a stronger sense of responsibility, which was due to 2 persons; the first one was Jeff Van Gundy. The second one was an anonymous middle-aged black woman in Houston (that he never met before).
Before the shoot-out practice on Friday, JVG showed the video of the Mavericks game to the team. He singled out both T-Mac and Yao Ming for praise. It was needless to say that T-Mac should be praised for his 48-pt performance. Yao Ming was praised for his fighting spirit and passion (shown in the game). JVG also specially cut and edited a video of Yao Ming's "heroics" during the Mavericks game to show to his team mates. After watching his own video, Yao Ming said he felt so psyched up with hot blood that he wanted to play immediately to win. He knew it was certainly not easy to get a praise from JVG now that he was under tremendous pressure.

JVG was not the only person that moved Yao Ming. Right after the shoot-out practice, Yao Ming went to a Chinese restaurant (opposite to the Toyota Centre) for his meal. After finishing his meal, he went up to pay his bill. The waiter told him that a lady at his back had picked up his bill. He turned around and found a middle-aged black woman smiling friendly to him.

"I just hope you can be happy. The Rockets played poorly recently. I hope you can bring more wins for the Rockets. We shall support you forever." That woman said. Yao Ming got struck and trembled. Surely he had no problem to pay for his own meal, but it was that kind of trust (from the woman) that Yao Ming felt like someone sending him charcoal during a bitter snowy Winter ???? . "To help the Rockets to win is the only way that I can repay the support of the fans." Yao Ming said he started to feel the obligations of being a Houston Rockets as he watched the middle-aged woman leaving (the restaurant).
Yao Ming just did that. When T-Mac struggled with low FG%, Yao Ming stepped up and took up more responsibility both in offense and defense. 14 times to the charity belt and 1 foul in 48 minutes. The Philidelphia 76ers just had no answer for such performance.

After T-Mac's 48-point performance in the Mavericks game, some people started to speculate that Yao Ming would at best become a supporting/role player to T-Mac. Yao Ming smiled and paid no regards to such comments. " If McGrady can play night-in night-out with that kind of performance as in the Mavericks game, I won't really mind to be the green leaf or even the soil to support him."

you could be suprised how people respond to the little things.

JVG showing Yao tape of him being aggresive was a great idea I know I get pumped up watching Yao be aggresive and throw it down. I wonder how that makes Yao feel?

Like it or not Yao responds better to positive reinforcement..

I don't think the Yao haters on this site will help Yao, he should stay away from this site as much as possible.

Right, so why was Yao having to pay anyway, or why did the lady have to pay for him if it was supposed to be free?

Unless it's becuase he is 7'5 instead of 7'6. :)

I hope Yao will get Jungle Fever after that encounter, it will help kicked his game into another stratosphere.:) (on second thought ,may be due to Yi (his girlfriend) Yao should not go there):) :)

You have to be 7'6" without shoes. Yao is 7'5" without shoes, so no free meal for Yao;)

"Yao Ming felt like someone sending him charcoal during a bitter snowy Winter ???"

That's a Chinese proverb for people giving support to those their saddest times...

    Throw it down, big man!

JVG needs to figure out ways to motivate Yao differently. For a guy who has all the money he wants and probably any woman he desires, maybe JVG could offer to be Yao's butler for a day. I think JVG could offer to wash Yao's BMW every time Yao gets a double double. He could get Yao's dry cleaning if Yao gets 15 rebounds in a game. JVG could make it fun.

I hope you know that gift giving and kind gestures are not reserved for those less fortunate than you?

It was a sweet gesture by that lady - a true Houston Rockets fan unlike you Uprising. :p

JVG needs to tie Yao down to a chair and play Yao's highlight reel in a continuous loop to infect him with...RAGE!! There will be no one standing in the NBA 28 Days Later... (ok, I'll stop now) :D

Sometime in the future, that woman is going to sue Yao, since she was the catalyst to his great success, wanting her fair share. :p
