When I was a kid, my brother, dad and I used to watch the Tracy Ullman show for the express purpose of seeing the Simpson shorts. I remember things as small as Homer burping and Bart saying "good one Dad" seemed risqué at the time. Partly because many other shows were so tame, and compounded by it being a cartoon. I feel like I'm one of the few people who never liked The Family Guy. Just always seemed like cheap laughs.
For a while I wasnt allowed to watch the simpsons. I dont know why. Maybe my parents saw something on the news which criticized it. I would try to explain to them that the simpsons had a good message at the end but they wouldnt budge. BTW... I agree with a whole lot of you who say the simpsons is more consistent than Family Guy. I can go through family guy episode without as much as a grin. THis is really disappointing. I mean Family Guy is so dumbed down that you have to make the father, peter, literally r****ded. It find cheap ways of making you laugh. Simpsons > Family Guy
In his defense, that show went way out of it's way to portray white people as stupid and incompetent. It never bothered me but it was very obvious.
Fox Sunday nights were awesome. The Simpsons, Married With Children, In Living Color...even Parker Lewis Can't Lose was alright. I remember people making a big fuss over one of the Simpsons' t-shirts, I think it was the one with Bart saying 'You suck man'. I think it was even banned in some schools. Amazing how far we've come.

"1796, A fiercely determined band of pioneers leaves Maryland after misinterpreting a passage in the Bible. Their Destination: New Sodom." "It's some kind of land cow!"
Starting to think about this... I, and a lot of you other Simpson peeps have a pretty umm... crazy sense of humor and outlook? I wonder if that molded our sense of humor, our boundaries. Hmm...
I think that I was in 6th grade when it came out, and luckily my parents didn't care about me watching the show. I am the perfect age for that show...I was in junior high during the first 3 seasons focused on Bart and when I got to high school the show evolved and peaked until I was out of college. Seasons 4-10 are just about the best comedy of all time
It was this one: It was banned in my school. Adults were really quite shocked by it at the time. The whole "Americans are ignorant and proud of it" was not a cultural meme at the time... so I guess we can (in part) thank the Simpsons for that.
Get out! Nobody is better then Boba Fett. He is the baddest mofo that the galaxy has ever seen. *Urge to kill eroding..eroding..eroding..rising...eroding...gone
I remember actually being scared by this. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/2E-flDxci-M&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2E-flDxci-M&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
