Not really Bench = remove him from his role as starting QB Keep Him = Keep Him on the field as our QB I thought about a 3rd polling option but wanted this as black and white as possible Ultimately, do you want Carr to remain as our guy or not. Evan
I voted for keeping him. Give the man an offensive line and a solid RB and he'll be fine. He didn't lose talent. If he was able to drop back and go through his progressions on a somewhat regular basis, I think he'd regain whatever confidence he has lost. He's got happy feet and is reluctant to stand in against the rush because of pure survival instinct. I don't care what people say about Peterson, if he's there at 5 or 6, you take him and don't look back. If he has the career that Eddie George had (another guy who runs too straight up) the Texans will be competing with the Titans for division supremecy for the next 8-10 years. First things first, keep building up that defense. Sign a CB (Samuel or Clements) Sign a LB (Adalius Thomas) Sign a true FS (Hamlin or Grant) who can cover so you can have Earl at SS on running downs and Brown at SS on passing downs. See if Spencer-Pitts-Flanagan-Weary-Winston is going to be your OL for next year and if not, upgrade accordingly. If the Texans have another off-season like they did this year where they added 7 starters (Mario, Weaver, Ryans, Spencer, Daniels, Flanagan, and Moulds) I think the team will be dramatically improved next year. QB: Carr WR: Johnson and Moulds RB: Adrian Peterson FB: Leech OL: Spencer, Pitts, Flanagan, Weary, Winston TE: Daniels DL: Williams, Weaver, Johnson, 2nd round draft pick LB: Greenwood, Ryans, Thomas CB: Robinson, Clements FS: FA (Deon Grant or Ken Hamlin both UFAs) SS: Earl/Brown K: not Brown P: not Stanley
What makes anyone think Carr is better than Rosenfel? A hunch? Where they were drafted? What they've done in games for the Texans?
I would not be surprised if the draft Kevin Kolb in the 2nd or 3rd round as a P.R. move and use him as back up for a year and then they will decide Carr's fate after next season (or sooner).
OK, then, that's what the choices should be. "Should he remain the starting quarterback" or "Should he not remain the starting quarterback?" whether traded, benched, cut, whatever. I thought if you benched him, you kept him.
Did anyone see, I think it was in the first series Sunday, one of the Texans jumped offsides. It was like the second false start in a row. Anyway, Carr just throws down the ball in disgust, totally showing the guy up. That bugged me for some reason.
If he doesn't do that, people would probably rag on him for not showing any emotion. I remember seeing posts in other Carr threads (not from you) ragging on him for not getting in other players faces. He's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. That's why I think it's best for all parties involved that he moves on this offseason.
Its just that time to go another direction. A sixth year in a row with a chance of potential mediocrity is rare even for an expansion team. No reason to hate him personally. Its just a football/business decision. David Carr will still remain Casserly's and the front office's fault for turning him into damaged goods but they can't afford to keep forcing one player to be good while the team and fans remain in suspense.
That's my table! I just keep thinking, if there was anyone else to take the Defense's attention away from Andre - Carr would not look so bad. He would have a playmaker as both a playmaker and a decoy for Andre. Can he check off of his primary target? No, but he's not used to the time in the pocket. Does he check all of his receivers every play? No. Does he know that we signed Moulds in the offseason? Maybe no. Does he complete a high percentage of those Carr-ish five yard passes? Absolutely. A.D. turns a few of those into pay dirt. It would open the offense up and improve the team to have a guy like Peterson. I'd go Peterson and even Smith if he was there in the second (to groom, drafted under the BPA methodology) I'd go
For the record, I am not a sunshine pumper on this subject and i never have been. I gave DC until midseason to prove something. He had that brief resurgence of testosterone in J-Ville and NYG away games before regressing progressively worse to now ... whoosie status. Remember Titans, last in NFL defense? We could not even get 300 yds total offense. Even if Carr has the perfect scenario with a stallwart line and an awesome RB named AP, granted that would take us further as a team, but when the opportunities are out there to make the game changing plays has Carr demonstrated ANY abilities that lead us to believe he can lead this team to anything other than the toilet bowl? The answer is a resounding NO! Sorry people, a divorce here is imminent IMO. Carr needs a fresh start elsewhere. The Texans meanwhile, need to exorcise all C&C's mistake demons from what has been a completely sordid, f***ed up mess! Kuby doesnt trust him. He doesnt believe in him and why should he? He's been given opportunities to demonstrate abilities and he STILL makes the same damn mistakes! Carr's body language and attitude are showing him to be a defeatist loser. He cannot command, or lead anything on the football field. He needs to find his confidence elsewhere because it's gone! Carr has not won any games for us but has singlehandedly lost games for us. How can he be back under all these overwhelming negative circumstances?
Perhaps he should have, but we would have had the same line. No QB could prosper with the line we have and those that say that another QB could step in and our line remember how to do their job and give him all the protection he needs is dreaming.
