In addition, the job of the garbageman requires no real skill or training. Its the same thing with the sewer repair man in the earlier example. Anybody could literally do the job after 2 days of training. A lawyer or IT guy has much more to worry about and he usually can't leave his job behind when he goes home. Furthermore, the lawyer and IT guy has put in that much amount of time and money into his training/education to attain that job, thus he deserves the standard of pay one makes.
^I would like to point out that while it is true that people are rewarded in their salary for the hard work and sacrifices that they've made to become qualified in their fields, it's just as true that we have a long way to go before everyone has a fairly equal shot at becoming financially successful.
