I'm not going to defend Silas other than to point out that no matter what he does , who he starts or what adjustments he makes , this team is going to look bad. The real problem is the turnovers , they have stretches where they can't get the damn ball across half court. They lead the league by a mile in # of turnovers and its not just one player but everyone contributing to the madness but it all starts with the point guard position and KPJ who has a negative assist to turnover ratio 5.0/5.3 so far this year ..... You cannot win like that. Everyone's darling - Sengun has a negative turnover to assist ratio too 1.8/2.7 but being fair , that's a totally different position and almost expected from a big man. As a team they have 127 assists and 116 turnovers thru 6 games. That's not something a coach can fix , that's fundamentals these cats should have down by now. The question is how to fix it , particularly if Porter doesn't get it together and the team comes to the conclusion they need to go in a different direction at the point guard spot - I think that's the case and would move Porter to the 6th man spot and tell him to attack. I don't know what the timeline is on Porter .... the leash probably extends to at least the end of this season but beyond that ? There's really nothing you want in free agency the next two years - a bunch of old expensive vets and the next two drafts appear to be very thin at the position with NO point guards in the top 10 prospects in either draft and one each in the top 15. 2022 NBA Free Agents Tracker | Spotrac Is there a trade out there that solves the Rockets point guard problems ?
wow you turned into silas apologist.... hes given a shitty hand, no talent and nothing he can do lolololol yeah right...give this team to obradovic and he turns them into a well oiled machine this clearly on coaching!
Great point…..my son watched the game last night and said we play like it’s a pickup game at a local park. No strategy, just each man for himself.
You’ll find that most teams leave Theis , Tate, and Wood wide open for threes. There’s a reason and it ain’t great play calling from our side.
This man should be fired. The biggest mistake the Sixers made during "The Process" was keeping Brett Brown as head of the team. Rockets are making the same mistake. A good coach is essential for the good development of the young players. Silas is not good.
Silas offense is 5 players who can and are required to put the ball on the floor and be finishers or facilitators based on read. Problem is, he's asking 19 year old's to do it. And if they're not 19, they're not high iq players. He acts as if calling a play is a bad thing but honestly with such a young team they need plays called so they learn how to play.
So ill advised passes , poor ball handling and in general sloppy play like dribbling the ball out of bounds is Silas fault ? You put a marginally competent point guard that can get the team across the time line and into their offensive sets in place of KPJ and his turnovers and the entire offense looks better. The only play this bunch can run with any consistency is a pick and pop ..... usually with Theis as the pick man ending up wide open and clanking a 3.
Silas is either following tank protocol or is genuinely pig headed enough to think that his 5 out freestyle offense would EVER work with starters who cant shoot the 3 ball above a 30% clip. Pretty outrageous. This is round hole, square peg territory. Sure the turnovers are really bad, but even on the plays where they dont turn the ball over its hero ball. If Silas cant teach these guys properly it will be a wasted year not only in the standings, but in the development of all the young guys they have committed to. How can you really analyze a player within this dysfunction? I'd bring in JVG to break these guys bad habits in the first practice.
They haven’t looked better when DJ is in the game. The best opportunity is to continue to work with KPJ to become a good PG. If he doesn’t improve at that role by the end of the season, then you try to address in the off-season. This is a re-building year.
in fact DJ looks worse than ever under Silas...granted i didnt watch him much outside rockets games but he was borderline elite whenever playing vs rockets, i always wanted morey to bring him here
I like JVGs work ethic but he was stubborn af with the vets. He'll probably play Theiss and Augustine 40 mins.
So basically, Silas' offense doesn't exist, you just need 5 players who can move with the ball in their hands, finish or distribute? Do you realise how stupid that sounds? If what you described is true Silas is a total fraud, that's not an offensive system, it's just letting All Star players do whatever they want and taking credit for their ability. Come on now.
