**************spoilers....************* The aliens fingers were cut off, that's how you knew it was the same one! And, the alien obviously discovered a way out from the pantry. Do y'all have to be shown everything? How do you know the alien was specifically going after Mel? Maybe when he escaped from the pantry he just continued doing what he was originally supposed to do, which is poison humans. I think the aliens were obviously defeated because they figured out that water was harmful to them.
The news said, "the tide was turned in the Middle East by tribes using primitive methods," or something like that. Yeah, they figured out the water part.
I loved it. This movie was like counter programming to all the crap that hollywood is spewing out these days. It was VERY well written, and did not have to hide behind quick jump cuts and lots of action, the action was the suspense or the THREAT of something about to happen. I think the movie was great, and I am happy that it is doing so well. Now, if I can just make it to December for that Two Towers movie everything will be alright. DD
spoiler why would the aliens invade a planet made mostly of water??? You would think an alien species capable of flying around the universe, would know their own weaknessess. And they would do some research on a planet to see if it had the resources they wanted. And with Earth being 70 odd percent water.. whats the point? The risk factor is too high. Anyways.. that was a flaw to me on an otherwise great movie.
Hahahaha Earth being 70 odd percent water.......that's precisely why earth is the only planet with life in the solar system. Now I don't know what grade are you in, but this is too funny.
Huh? im out of college. I dont get your reply?!? does anyone? Should I explain what I said to you like a four year old? edit: michecon, on second thought. You probably have not seen the movie. Thats the only thing that could explain your post. Now I dont get why you would be responding to something you dont know anything about.
Well atually I watched through it half-sleep on my buddy's computer, appearantly I missed something. Now explain to me why aliens don't want water.
The movie was actually ok or slightly above average IMO. There were some glaring holes in the writing, and story line. However, it was suspenseful, the acting was really well done, and so I would give it a slightly above average rating. I see there are already a lot of spoilers here so I might elaborate later.
I give it roughly the same rating as you maybe more of a 6.5-7.0, but I liked Gibson in this. He played a kind of timid type of character, unlike the charging action hero we normally see him play. His character obviously had a lot of doubts and was unsure about a lot of things. It was something different for Gibson.
IMO Joaquin Phoenix came out in this movie. He was great. MIND YOU. This is Night's worse work to me. . . but that is not bad. I'd give it a 6~7 on the movie scale. Like someone said GLARING wholes in the plots. BTW why would dew, and basic humidity bother them more. . . .would seem like walking in a cloud of acid. Rocket River
He's saying water is necessary for life. Earth has life. Therefore earth must have water. If the aliens wanted to get people they had no chioce but to come to a planet with water. The plot hole to me is why the aliens are vulnerable to water in the first place. I guess you could say they are a completely different form of life that doesn't rely on water. Eitherway, the plothole can be explained. But what made the movie so good was the atmosphere and tension. The aliens were just a device. I'm willing to overlook that.
Bravo. Great movie. As for the question "why would they invade a planet that is 75% water?" Well, didn't you notice they kind of picked their spots? Bucks County, the middle east, mexico city are all relatively dry. And besides, with sci-fi, there doesn't have to be a plausible explanation. Maybe our framing system was alluring to them. Maybe the poisonous gas they inserted into the humans made the humans non toxic to them. Who knows? It's sci fi. Outstanding movie that was very well cast. Was the girl psychic? Obviously, there was something unique about her.
I thought the movie was pretty well done. SPOILERS! I had a theory throughout the movie whereby I thought that the little girl was really an alien spawn (with the dead wife, who was abducted earlier). M. Night really set it up that way, IMO. 1) The dog trying to kill the girl. 2) The obsession with water. 3) The psychic dreams. 4) The lack of fear in her regarding the aliens. 5) The cornfield signs. 6) The alien watching her window. 7) The aliens coming for them. However, I realized about 20 minutes from the end that my theory was really cheesy, and if the movie did indeed end like that, I would probably hate the movie. Therefore, I'm glad my theory was shot down. I was disappointed in the lack of a surprise ending (since I was expecting one), but it didn't stop me from liking the movie. Joaquin Phoenix was the star of the movie, IMO.
Was the wife abducted? I thought maybe she just saw the future, I don't know. Little girl was already born when the mother died. Great movie.
This guys movies gett hokier and hokier one by one.God if you are ging to rip off War of the worlds atleast don't mention it in your movie. And the little Hichcock appearances in your movie thing M is a bit egocentric in my opinion.Sorry but you ain't no Speilberg-Close encounters blows this crap away- and you ain't no Hitchcock-you try to catch us off guard but your stories have cheesy endings. IMO.
