Hottoddie,You're a smart guy.I was thinking the same thing, the Rockets might be thinking about picking up Clark with the exception, but I don't know if the Rockets will be able to get him.
After last years injury record they shouldn't make any trades and just sign him the the MCE if he'll take it because by the end of November there probably won't be a logjam at any position
In regards to the trades that involve anderson or Potapenko, that cannot work becuase there is a certain time period that has to expire before the players can be traded again. I think it is 60 days, don't have the link to the CBA FAQ at home to be sure. The anderson/lewis for Glenn Rice/Moochie/KT was a thing of bueaty from a numbers standpoint though. I can't see the situation where they would take Rice though. Someone said that the Clipps won't play, do you have a source for that? I'm a Mav's fan and all of the S&T's I can come up with that work go through the Clipps. Drofnarc who is a frustrated rockets fan living in Dallas with season tickets, suggested to me that a S&T that would bring the Clips and Cavs into the mix to facilitate the moving of A. Miller might be something to explore. The good thing is that if there is plenty of time to work out any kind of crazy deal.
I thank you for the kind words, but let's not get carried away. I'm not that smart. As for the Rockets being able to get him, it's looking better. The latest is that NY is pursuing Doleac with their mid-level. Also, the majority of the teams are over the salary cap & many are dangerously close to the Luxury Tax threshhold. Add to that, the fact that Keon stated publicly, that he'd like to play in a warm climate & I have to believe that we're in the running, if the Rockets really want him.
Up 'til this point, Seattle has refused to consider a S&T (publicly). 1. What do you think of Rashard coming out in public and declaring that he will not play for Seattle next year, no matter what the contract? Would that put pressure on the Sonics to do a S&T so that they get something in return? The Sonics could call his bluff and force him to sign for the MCE, but he may already be willing to do that. 2. What's better: signing him for the MCE for 1-3 years with the chance of
(Sorry, got cut off. Please refer to previous post) 2. What's better: signing him for the MCE for 1-3 years with the possibility that a) he leaves for greener pastures later b) Rox have to pay him real max deal afterwards or working out a S&T for him where he receives $60-80mil/6yrs with the possibility that a) you have a future All-Star locked up for that many years at what will later be a bargain price b) Rashard busts for whatever reason with the Rox and you're stuck with a big contract Hope that wasn't too confusing, but I thought I might get your opinions.
i do not want rashard at even mo taylor money. is it really necessary to have a "star" at every position? how about some role players? that's why i think nachbar might be the perfect fit here. however if rashard wants to come for the mid-level exception then later sign a cuttino contract, bring him on.
rashard is a role player. yao is a role player steve can be a role player, griff can be a role player. thats potentially 4 role players on our team. We are not a selfish team, well if we have talnet we're not. But we have players other players trust, and they will let them do there thing.
We have to trade Nachbar if we want Lewis. Still, I think Boki will become a much better player, and we would regret trading him for Lewis. Go after Odom. He's what we need. Odom's potential is so much higher than Lewis', and they're both young. Odom will come for cheaper, and will demand much less once it's time for his payday. Remember what Mobley said? Odom running the break, with Steve and Cat racing down the court. You guys should keep in mind that Rice HAS to stay, because the cap space he frees up in 2 years is ESSENTIAL to re-signing our own players. If we can get the Cavs in on a 3-way, we could work out something like this: Houstons sends: Nachbar Collier MoT T-Mo 2004 first round pick Houston gets: Odom Tyrone Hill Clippers send: Lamar Odom Rights to Chris Wilcox Clippers get: Jason Collier Andre Miller Cleveland sends: Andre Miller Tyrone Hill Cleveland gets: Nachbar Terrence Morris Maurice Taylor Chris Wilcox Houston's 2004 first round pick Analysis: Houston: We get a bit older with this trade, but it's not a bad thing. I hate to give up Nachbar, because personally, I think he's going to be better than Peja. Don't want to give up Mo T either seeing as how he's working REALLY hard, and LOVES playing here. T-Mo and Collier are throw ins. Collier wasn't very useful to us anyway, and T-Mo will get a better chance on a less advanced team that can give him more minutes. We have to throw in our 2004 pick, because, assuming Nachbar and MoT are what we're giving for Odom, T-Mo, Collier and the pick are what we have to give for TyHill. The pick will be PROTECTED probably, and I think most will agree. Not a problem though, because it will likely be 18+ anyway. We get Odom to play BIG minutes off the bench. Starter minutes in fact. That's until he gets his rhythym back, and gets into some good shape, and develosp some chemistry. We also get a very VERY good "starter for now, back up after all star-break" type of player. Griffin will benefit from playing behind such a hard worker for a while, his experience and D will be very valuable. Griff might take some boxing out tips from him too. Clippers: They do what they were gonna do. They offered Wilcox and Odom on draft night, but it got nixed. Wilcox gives Cleveland an EXCITING future at PF, a player the fans will come to see. VERY well might be the next McDyess. They get more young blood in Boki, and Mo T can start till Wilcox explodes. Cleveland: Miller is for sale, but they get a very good pacage for him. With Wagner in the backcourt, Wilcox and Nachbar at F in a year or so, and Diop the C, they have a VERY young, exciting team that people will come to watch. Of course, they'd probably have to sign a veteran PG to play 25 minutes till Wagner adjusts. Thoughts? Our roster: Cato(28)/Ming(20) TyHill(23)/Griffin(25) Rice(22)/Odom(26) Mobley(38)/Francis(10) Francis(28)/Mooch(20) That's an incredible line-up, and the starters ina year are a polished Ming, Eddie Griffin, lamar Odom, Cuttino Mobely, Steve Francis. That's unbeatable.
Wow. Couldn't leave this one alone. Although he has an upside Odom is not that good. He is a poor 3pt shooter, cant hit a free throw for his life and has turns over the ball consistently. He only puts up numbers if you treat him like your point guard. We have ball handlers already. The Rocks were one of the worst shooting teams in the league last year, we need players that will drive this up not down. The Rockets have done a superb job with picking up high percentage shooters in the draft. Lewis has a sweet shot, can hit the FT. In many ways Lewis is a far better fit than LO. Also Lewis hasn't failed the NBA drug tests *5* times as LO has, not to mention LO's injury issues. Are we 'In-Sane'?
cannot trade Boki until at least mid October, so if he is included,,it would be a mid training camp trade...I personally think Boki can be versatile in playing the backuo 2 and 3......you could actually trot a lineup out there with Morris at the 3 and Boki at the 2 with Moochie at the 1 and Thomas at the 4 and Griffin at the 5.......
Lewis is a better shooter, Odom can do a little of everything. Odom has had trouble getting on the court recently as well. He may be cheaper now but that's just because he's still on his rookie contract. He will be demanding the same if not more when its time to sign a new deal. Lewis has shown to be loyal, and is willing to come to Houston even after being snubbed by them in the draft.
Thanks DearRock, Sir Jackie Chiles. Kayman, maybe Seattle would send us Barry instead of Booth. I thought Seattle wanted to dump Booth, as overpaid. If Seattle wants a center in return, we can throw in Cato ($6.7 mil.) and take out Rice. Cato would be an upgrade over Booth (?). In this scenerio, we would send KT, Collier, TMo to Chicago. Chicago could send a second round pick to Seattle to give consideration. But then we could only take back salaries of $11.7 mil. This means Rashard's sign and trade deal could only start at $6.7, which might not be enough for him. Bayrock, Kayman, Rashard's base-year value (that Seattle could receive in returning salaries) is the greater of half of his new salary, or his salary last year. Since he made $4.4 mil. last year, his base-year figure will be at least this amount, making a deal easier. Too bad the Rockets couldn't have gotten in on the Boston trade (making it a four-way instead of a three way), because then Anderson and Potapenko could have been involved, increasing the odds of pleasing every one. But this is probably hindsight, because Seattle probably traded Baker in part to keep Rashard (especially if Lewis didn't want to make less money than Baker, while producing a whole lot more). Maybe a trade could be agreed to in principle now involving the Rockets receiving Anderson or Potapenko (instead of Booth or Barry), but not being finalized for sixty days (if Lewis can wait).
ESPN Insider: Rashard Lewis calls Sonics offer "disappointing" Did the Sonics finally give Rashard Lewis an official offer Wednesday? Lewis told listeners on a Seattle radio station Wednesday that the Sonics did give him an offer, and he's not happy with it. "They gave me the offer, and I didn't like the offer, and so I'm going to take a trip to Dallas," Lewis said during an interview with KJR-AM. The Tacoma News Tribune reported that the offer was worth more than $60 million over seven seasons. "They're not matching the offer that I think I'm worth," Lewis said. "To me, it made me a little bit disappointed because of the fact they told me that I'm a guy they want to build the team around. But to me, the contract that they offered me, it doesn't seem like they want to build the team around me." Lewis will arrive in Dallas this morning and Mavs owner Mark Cuban is hoping to convince Lewis to bolt Seattle and sign with Dallas and the mid-level exception. The Mavs aren't the only team that will get in the hunt A Rockets team source told Insider Wednesday that the team is extremely interested in signing Lewis. While the source downplayed a possibility of a sign-and-trade with the Sonics, they did say that the Rockets plan on meeting with Lewis and his agent, Carl Poston. Lewis, who just built a new home in Houston, has maintained all year that he'd like to join the Rockets. Poston confirmed the Rockets interest to the Houston Chronicle. "They have expressed interest informally. They don't understand why Seattle has not signed Rashard. But if they don't sign Rashard, [the Rockets] would be very interested in having him be here." The Rockets do have a bit of a logjam at small forward with Glen Rice and Bostjan Nachbar. However, the Rockets source told Insider they wouldn't pass up the opportunity to sign Lewis if he's willing to leave Seattle. The Chicago Tribune and Sun Times are also reporting that GM Jerry Krause has also expressed interest in Lewis. The 76ers, Raptors, Jazz, and T-Wolves have also expressed interest. With that said, several GM's told Insider Wednesday that, when all is said and done, they expect Lewis to return to the Sonics. "I think the Sonics will step up and make a better offer if they really believe they'll lose him. I think Lewis' decision to go to Dallas is a negotiating ploy. He'd never touch the ball there." Lewis indicated as much Wednesday. "I'm hoping it's not going to be the final offer because my main thing is re-signing in Seattle. Everything is pretty much on them if they want me to be back in Seattle or not. Hopefully, when I make another couple of visits, maybe they'll come with another contract to put on the table. But I can't really say. That's up to Seattle."
I'll take a stab a dreamcasting a deal for Lewis. Not completely sure about the salary numbers though. Hou trades: Taylor (7.0) = 7.0 Hou gets: Lewis (7.0) = 7.0 Seattle trades: Lewis (4.5) + Potapenko (5.0) = 9.5 mil. Seattle gets: Taylor (7.0) + Rooks (2.5) = 9.5 Clippers trade: Rooks (2.5) = 2.5 Clippers get: Potapenko (5.0) = 5.0 Fairly simple deal. Only 4 players involved. Houston gets the guy they want. Seattle gets the power forward they wanted a few years ago and they get Rooks, whose contract expires after next season. The Clippers get some insurance in case Kandi leaves. Plus, Potapenko only has 2 years remaining on his contract anyway.
He is going to the mavs He is going to the take 3 yrs. Do u know why? PS2 Computers Gamecube etc. Mark Cuban going to pamper him. Cuban is smart
I don't understand these pipe dreams about us giving up Cato & Rice (or something similar) to get Lewis. It seems more logical that Seattle would ask for something a bit more. Perhaps something like Mobley & KT. The Rockets, of course, wouldn't go for such a thing (at least I don't think so). So Then you have to meet in the middle. Actually Dallas getting involved could help our chances, because we could suggest to Seattle that Rashard would leave Seattle to go to Dallas regardless, so they might as well get something for him. Still, you get what you pay for. If you're giving up over-paid players who are going over the hill or don't live up to their potential, expect that in return. If you're getting young athletic players with a strong upside, you'll have to part with something similar.
Theres pics of rashard lewis visitin on the site too. Is it just me or should we lobby for a law banning Cuban from wearing shirts that hes had since he was little. Rashard Lewis Visited the Mavs July 25 Lewis Rashard Lewis went on one college recruiting visit when he was a high school senior in 1998. Of course, it was not necessary for him to look at colleges because he ended up going directly from Alief Elsik High School into the National Basketball Association. But the one college visit that Rashard took back then was nothing compared to the Dallas Mavericks Campus visit that Don Nelson and Mark Cuban orchestrated today. Coach Nelson called the “full-courting” press that had Rashard and his family dashing around Dallas in a stretch limousine like the Rolling Stones on Tour. Rashard arrived in Dallas via American Airlines around lunchtime. He was greeted at the airport baggage claim by a large crowd of approximately 300 Mavericks fans who all cheered and held signs of support in hopes of helping the Mavericks snag the athletic forward who just finished his fourth season in the NBA. As Lewis made his way through the crowd of people, he answered media questions that were coming from all directions. He waved at fans that were screaming ‘Rashard Come to Dallas!’ Six Dallas Mavericks Dancer were holding a sign that read “Welcome Rashard Lewis.” Mavericks staff members were attempting to get his group of visitors, which included his mother Juanita Goodman, his step-father Leroy Brown, a good friend Travis Eskridge, and his two agents Carl Poston and Kevin Poston, loaded into two awaiting limos. After the group left the airport they headed downtown to the Mansion on Turtle Creek where they checked in and ate lunch before they headed over to American Airlines Center. At American Airlines Center, Rashard meet with Maverick Chaplain Tony Evans then headed to the Mavericks locker room where his locker was already complete with Rashard Lewis #43 jerseys. Lewis’ mother commented that the tour was “awesome” and she was “very happy” with the attention that the Mavericks were giving her son. The group finished their tour of the Maverick facilities by heading down to the Mavericks practice court where Rashard was greeted by 100 screaming Boys and Girls Club members who all hounded him for his autograph. While signing, the gymnasium load speakers piped Maverick audio highlights that included Rashard taking a pass from Dirk Nowitzki and hitting a buzzer-beating jumper to defeat the Los Angeles Lakers 114-113. After Rashard finished signing he answered a few more questions from the media and summed up his visit with this:” They are definitely making me feel at home. I expected this kinda stuff from Mark. But it is still impressive and puts a smile on my face.” Put a smile on our face Rashard - sign with the Mavericks.
