How could anyone be so obsessed with Houston that they'd be willing to turn down $75 million just to live there? I wouldn't.

Why in the world would you want to get rid of Nachbar. I still think he will be better than Lewis. Foeget Lewis lets go with what we have.

he has not been given the chance to turn down $75 million. Where did you get that number from? Seattle made a very low offer to him yesterday. He is upset & embarrassed that they would humiliate him like that because he could have signed with Toronto in 2000 for about the same as what they offered him yesterday. He stayed in Seattle in the first place because they said they would hook him up big time, and he took them at their word because they put a "franchise" tag on him. Lewis is flat-out pissed at their pathetic offer & empty promises.

My fingers are crossed. I believe he would be the perfect fit. One interesting thing is that CD said after the draft that the Rockets were NOT done yet with moves this summer. All the insiders are so quiet. I really, really hope Rashard will come to Houston. What an exciting team this would be...

JoeBarelyCares, I think you did a magnificent job with that trade. It looks to me as if it could work...however, from a Rockets perspective, I would rather do the deal with Potapenko instead of Booth. That Booth contract is quite horrible and then we would be stuck with the contracts of Booth, Cato, Moochie and Mo (I think Mo's would be less of a problem, I don't think he is THAT overpaid).

Yao Ming's Opinion on Rashard Lewis

I wonder what Ming thinks of bringing Lewis to the team...

I personally think that this team w/o Lewis can still run with the best. But getting Lewis and clearing up the logjam at the 4 can help us come close to win the title...I'M ALL FOR IT!

He wants to live there because he's really tight with his family and wants to be close to them, and they're in Houston. It's not like he wants to go there just for the hell of it :)

If the Rockets are trying to do a sign & trade, then they must have the mid-level exception marked for another player. If Cato is included in the trade, could they be planning on targeting Keon Clark? WOW! Talk about athleticism. Francis, Mobley, Griffin, Lewis & Clark (pun intended) as the starting 5, at first. Ming, Taylor or KT, Nachbar, Moochie, & Maddox as the second team?

Yeah, it looks like he doesn't want really to play for Houston rather he really wants to play in Houston. Enough to forget about that Draft Day disaster 5 years ago. I don't know about this trade, but if they get rid one of our overpaid contracts then we'll be better off paying for a player that's in our core rotation.

Since we are all speculating, I have cooked up a S&T that takes Lewis' BYC status into consideration, but does not require a 3rd. team. Check this out.

    Seattle Trades:

    Kenny Anderson at 9.2 mil
resigned Rashard Lewis at 7.0 mil (BYC=3.5)

    Seattle's out going salary = 16.2mil (9.2 + 7.0)
Salary Seattle can take back = 12.7mil due to Lewis' BYC status (9.2 + 3.5-BYC)

    Houston Trades:

    Glen Rice at 9.2
    Moochie at 3.6
    KT at 1.4

    Houston's out going salary = 14.2mil
Salary Houston can take back= 14.2mil (no BYC issue)

    So
    Houston can take back 14.2 mil x1.15 +100K = 16.43
This exceeds the 16.2m that Seattle is sending out, so the trade works from this perspective.

    Seattle can take back 12.7 mil x 1.15 + 100K = 14.7
This exceeds the 14.2 mil that Houston is sending out, so the trade works for this perspective.

While this trade may work from a CBA perspective, would Seattle be interested in Rice, KT and Mooch for Lewis and Anderson?

    I think its a good trade, but, I'm a Homer:D

There are not many ways to do it. Let's first look at the pre-conditions:
    1. Because of the BYC issue Seattle and Houston need a team with cap room to absorb some salaries, which basically means Chicago. (Clippers will not play)

    2. If Chicago is to be involved they would like to possibly get rid of Eddie Robinson's contract. They would also like to get some talent in return, or veteran big man (which neither Seattle nor Houston have). Rice for ERobb is possible since Rice's contract expires before their rookie contracts need to be extended.

    3. Seattle will like to dump Booth or Potapenko's contracts, and get help at 4-5.

    4. Houston would like to keep the Mobley-Francis-Griffin nucleus and not give up too much of the other assets. (For example, as laughable as it is, MoTay+Cato would be giving up too much, since it will make the 4-5 positions too thin)

So here's one of the possible deals (there aren't many alternatives):

    Houston trades:
    MoTaylor: $7.15M
    Glen Rice: $9.2 M
    Kenny Thomas: $1.56M

    Total traded away: $17.91 M

    Seattle trades:
lewis: $2.3M (half of his first-year pay, according to BYC rules, correct me if I am wrong)
    Potapenko: $5.24M

    Total traded: $7.54

    Chicago trades:
    Eddie Robinson: $5.73M

    Houston receives:
    Lewis: $7.0M
    Eddie Robinson: $5.73M
    Potapenko: $5.24M

    Total: $18M

    Seattle receives:
    MoTaylor: $7.15M

    Chicago receives:
    Glen Rice: $9.2 M
    Kenny Thomas: $1.56M

Total: $10.76M (which will max them cap-wise)

Variations: (1) Chicago gets back the Drew obligation to sweeten the deal. (2) Seattle sends Booth instead of Potapenko and receives Cato instead of Taylor

    Analysis:

Houston: (+) gets their man, (+) dumps Rice's contract, (+/-) loses MoTay who they apparently like. (+/-) loses Kenny Thomas who might have been gone next year anyway. (+/-) takes on ERobb and Potapenko's contracts neither of which may give you much in return, but who knows...

Seattle: (+) gets MoTay (who they like) to fill their PF need. (+/-) loses Lewis, which was going to happen anayway. (+) reduces payrol by dumping Potapenko's contract.

Chicago: (+) dumps EddieRob's contract (+) gets Kenny Thomas for free. (+/-) assumes Rice's contract whcich is not very long (I think NY pays a portion of it) plus, Rice gives you the veteran they were looking for.

    Houstons roster:

    C: Ming, Cato, Collier
    PF: Griffin, Potapenko
    SF: Lewis, Nachbar, ERobb, TMo
    SG: Cat, Torres (FA)
PG: SF, Mooch, Tierre (FA), Maddox (?)

    Seattle's roster:

    C: James, Booth
    PF: Taylor, Drobnjak
    SF: Mason, Radmanovich
    SG: Barry, Forte
    PG: GP, KennyAnd

Here's how it would look with Booth/Cato instead of Taylor/Potapenko:

    Houston trades:
    Cato: $6.7M
    Glen Rice: $9.2 M
    Kenny Thomas: $1.56M

    Total traded away: $17.46 M

    Seattle trades:
lewis: $2.3M (half of his first-year pay, according to BYC rules, correct me if I am wrong)
    Booth: $5.00M

    Total traded: $7.3

    Chicago trades:
    Eddie Robinson: $5.73M

    Houston receives:
    Lewis: $7.0M
    Eddie Robinson: $5.73M
    Potapenko: $5.24M

    Total: $18M

    Seattle receives:
    Cato: $6.7M

    Chicago receives:
    Glen Rice: $9.2 M
    Kenny Thomas: $1.56M

Total: $10.76M (which will max them cap-wise)

    Houston's roster:

    C: Ming, Booth, Collier
    PF: Griffin, Taylor
    SF: Lewis, Nachbar, ERobb, TMo
    SG: Cat, Torres (FA)
PG: SF, Mooch, Tierre (FA), Maddox (?)

    Seattle's roster:

    C: James, Cato
    PF: Potapenko, Drobnjak
    SF: Mason, Radmanovich
    SG: Barry, Forte
    PG: GP, KennyAnd

As you can see, even though the Rockets would rather trade Cato than Taylor, that would leave the Sonics with a hole at PF, so I think they are less likely to go for it, despte the fact the taylor has his question marks as well...

Good Job BayRock!!! I didn't think of that. Basically, it's a long shot for Seattle to accept this deal. They would be trading kennyAnderson who had a decent year and only one year left on his contract, for Rice, who has missed a season and has 2 years left on his contract + MoochieNorris' whom they didn't want to pay the minimum a couple of years ago, just to be able to get KT for one year??? Who knows, everything is possible... I think though, that Kenny Anderson's contract status is pretty valuable.

On the side, If you look back, I suggested a trade of MoTay for Kenny Anderson awhile ago. I think Boston would be better off taking MoTay than Beker. Many people here thought that Boston would not go for it...

I would love to see this line up:

    pg-Francis
    sg-Mobley
    sf-Lewis
    pf-Griffin
    C--Ming

    backups

    pg-Tierre Brown/Maddox
    sg-Nachbar(in a big lineup)/Francis(because he can!)
    sf-Nachbar/Thomas(in a big lineup)
    pf-Thomas
    c--Cato

That way we trade Taylor, Morris, Rice, and Norris for Lewis!!! This solves the log jams.

Nachbar should not be traded for Lewis. If we can dump Rice and T-Mo it's ok,although I don't think Seattle would want them from us.I want to retain Mo-T and give him another chance.

About that Kenny Anderson suggestion, I don't think a player can be traded twice in thirty days or something like that.
