Sign a Petition to Send the Statue of Liberty back to France!

1) Becaue one doesn't equal the other...we got in it for our own best interests; the fact that it helped others doesn't mean that our own best interests always coincide with others, it merely means that we look out for ourselves, and the rest of the world assuming that we know what's best for them better than they do would be silly. Remember they weren't surprised that our involvment in WWII helped, in fact they were asking us to do it long before we were prepared to.

 

To me the whole issue of who owes who more historically between France and the US is pointless. It is double pointless to say "how could the French forget what we did for them in WWII, and then conveniently forget what they did to help our own independence in the Revolutionary War. Heck, if you go back a little farther, you will find much of our ideas about freedom and government were from French thinkers. To me all this deflects from the issues of the 21st century and the best way to approach international affairs in the ME. That is where the focus should be.

I am glad the French helped us defeat the British though, I am glad in school I only had to learn to speak American.
