    I'm wondering that too.

Does it mean, the Rockets should only take 1 contested 2 point jumper, while the rest of their shots be FTs, deep paint, and open treys?

Or does it have to do with contesting the opponents' jumpers?

I suspect that "1 Contested 2 Point J" means that each player should make it a point to shoot a contested jumper at some point in the game (perhaps the earlier the better).

The philosophy behind that is if your defender knows that you're not going to shoot when he's in the area, he won't play as tight on you as if he knew you were a threat to shoot. Now you might think "why would they want someone to guard them CLOSER?" and the answer is that the closer a defender is guarding you, the better chance you have of going past him, and especially with the guard-oriented perimeter rules, that should make it easier to get to the line.

Obviously, this is simply conjecture on my part, but I think it makes sense. Seems like a Van Gundy, thinking man's man type of quirky exploit.

These guys have more slogans than a North Korean rally.

What the hell is "1 Contested 2 Point J"?

    Nice

    THat seems right

well compared to what i thought which was that you have to contest every two point Js, which doesnt really explain the "1" part

Defensively, you hold the other team to 1 contested jump shot, no open 3s, nothing in the paint.

bingo. that's JVG's defensive philosophy. only give up contested jumpers, and then rebound the miss.

They look more like the typical corporate buzzwords in the US.

I hope this was tongue in cheek, because it was really funny to me.

The obvious answer (already given later in this thread) is that as a defensive unit we only want to give up one shot each trip down, and that is not a 3 or a drive, but a contested jumper. If that's all we are giving up, then we will be an elite defensive team.

why is coach always drinking a diet coke? Is he diabetic? Or he drinks it to stay sharp/awake? In almost all of the pictures of him in practice he's holding a can.

My guess: only one contested 2 point J is allowed for each player per game. You are just not supposed to take contested jumpers.

Or it could be meant for defense: You always put a hand in your jumpshooting oppoent's face.

Free throws, deep paint, open 3s.

Looks like we are commited to playing inside out through Yao.

    1 Contested 2 Point J

    - Have at least one nasty in-yo-mug dunk (two-point Jam) per game to demoralize the opposition

    - McGrady and Head are the two employees of the month and are being honored by having their secret nicknames on the poster - "Contested" and "Point J".

    - Always have point guard contest the shooting guard on defense. If unsuccessful, point the finger of blame to Juwon ("J").

It's his "signature move," my guess, its to stay awake (just look at him). Coca-Cola should be giving him endorsement $$$, you're right, he's rarely without one...

Maybe his lower arch appears "perfect," but he has a diastema between teeth #8 and # 9.
