After that near death experience, I've been less emotional or petty in my commutes, and if I drive safer with the flow of traffic, it only adds ~15 minutes to the 3.5 hr long drive. It's one ****ing boring drive though. And the idiots....must not engage in similar idiocy...

It's really tough habit to break, but for a 30 minute drive, I'm guessing driving 15 mph faster than the flow of traffic only shaves off 3-5 minutes. Things I gotta remind myself:

    1. Point A-> Point B
    2. Only shaves off a few minutes speeding/cutting/weaving/throwing weapons at other cars
    3. It's not a race or video game for first place. Your prize for winning is living. Your prize for losing is living. Your prize for playing: sometimes a totaled car or worse.
    4. Other drivers think in different ways. Reading some patterns doesn't give you a license to control them.
    5. If you get into a driver side confrontation, admit fault and let him win. It'll surprise the ****er and he'll drive away. Event forgotten. Escalation means I might be ****ing later to wherever I was already late in attending.

    6. If you risk a lot, one day those shaved minutes will add up. The wreck that follows will equal/exceed the collective time you stole.

I Pretty much agree with everything you said OP... I hate driving in Houston. There are 3 types of drivers: the good, the bad, and the horrible. It seems like 60% are horrible, 30% are bad, and 10% are good.

What pisses me off to no end is when the freeway is clogged and someone changes lanes without putting on their signal. I can't tell you how many times I've almost gotten into a wreck because some jackass thinks he doesn't have to put on his signal. Ugh...

Oh and another thing, women are horrible drivers. Especially Asians. There, I said it.

Instead of wanting people to put on their signal, just assume anyone who changes lanes won't do it. Makes you more paranoid and cautious for cars that look like they will or even the ones that surprise you. And if you can't prepare or anticipate for it, then slowing down is the best answer. One or two cars in front of you doesn't matter in the long run. Sometimes they shave no time at all, sometimes 5 minutes. It averages out in the long run.

What I hate is me putting up my signal and other drivers taking it as "a sign of weakness" by speeding up more and taking up my passing space....Except they drive slower than I normally would.

But when you drive longer distances and on less congested freeways, you start realizing that the traffic you see now won't be the same traffic 15-20 seconds from now. Does that victory you stressed so hard for earlier really matter when the loser you beat is side by side with you, stuck in the same damn turnpike?

She was already going like 61 though, which is why I didn't understand the braking. We were pretty much going the same speed (and she was about a car and a half length in front of me) until she hit the brakes. She could have easily gotten into the HUGE gap in front of me with no issues. Plus, there was a truck behind me trying to merge onto the freeway as well, so I pressed the gas a little for it and eased off enough for her....like I always do. But like they always say, don't trust any other driver but yourself.

When I'm in packs of cars with drivers like myself, it is so much more pleasant.

Another one that kills me. A car speeds in front of you then tries to muscle their way between you and the car you are the normal distance behind when they could've just gotten over into your lane behind you cause there are no cars within 15 car lengths.

i am in the middle lane on 518..to my right there's a ford taurus (i am on track to pass him up). then the driver in front of the taurus slowed down to turn right. lo and behold i look and the taurus is coming into my lane!

i braked and honked in time to avoid the accident.:mad::mad:

We know the asian stereotype, but I personally think black people are the most reckless drivers. Especially black women. It's like you're just in their way and you need to move.

Also, why do people drive corollas like they're ferraris? It's always corollas hauling ass

So, there should be a rule in place where the enforced minimum speed exceeds the speed limit?

I'm in my mid 30's, have been driving since the age of 16, and I can't think of any "story" I'd like to tell about driving. I can't think of one single thing anyone has done on the roadways that pissed me off enough to tell a story about it. Whatever happens on the roadways, I brush it off, and go on with my day. I don't even remember any bad driving traits because I don't let it get to me. I have more important things to worry about than whos in the fast lane or the slow lane, yielding, merging, etc.... No stress here, baby.

I only let white people, especially the hot child-less ladies, merge into my lane because you know, that's the most important thing I pay attention to while driving.

Before I leave my garage I always remind myself that there are stupid drivers out there. So being careful, not just in drving, but how you react to it. otherwise, driving is the number one source of stress and it can hurt you mentally and physically.

So do it and you'll be fine.

You make the roads more dangerous by not yielding to faster drivers. If you get tired of moving your hands a few degrees to the right, then back to the left, every few minutes, perhaps driving isn't your forte.
