Do they come to these conclusions on pure speculation or is that coming from Pettitte? If thats the case him wanting to go to an intense environment then the whole wanting to be closer to family thing wasn't that legit from the start. That and the retirement talk, unless he gave it a try here and changed his mind along the way......(Family, Retirement, or Intense Environment? )

Besides being injured one year, Pettitte was not a bust. He brought over the exact performance from New York and even a great year in 2005. If he goes though oh well, bye to him and half-year #22

Wow, what a surprise. I was expecting him to go to the Pirates, Royals, Brewers or hell, maybe even the Rockies or Devil Rays! Never in a million years would I have guessed a big name free agent would end up with a team like the Yankees.

At least baseball isn't the least bit predictable!

I'll tell you now, this will make me think a little less of Andy. Not because he went to another team...but because of the whole, "give me till Christmas" thing. Just seems really disingenuous if a week later he's signing wtih another team.

It's not surprising at all if the story as to why he ended up with the astros in the first place is true.

Which part of the story? The Yankees being nervous about his elbow problems or his wife demanding he play in Houston after it was speculated that he had been caught having an affair? His exit from NY was quite dramatic.

Don't buy it. First, pettitte has been quoted as saying he won't make a decision until Christmas. Secondly, no quotes from him or his agent about meeting with NY(means its all speculation and second hand info).

Third, look at all the conjecture in the piece:

The free-agent left-hander, who is strongly considering retirement, is said to be intrigued with the idea of returning to pinstripes and "could possibly have a deal by the end of the week" with New York, according to a baseball source familiar with the negotiations.

Pettitte is intrigued about ending his career where it began and returning to a more intense environment than he found in Houston. With 186 career wins, he also would have the chance of winning his 200th game.
As if he couldn't get 14 wins in houston, lmao.

    Yawn.

The always reliable NE media has had Roger & Andy returning to NY/Boston on about 74 different occasions over the past couple of years. This report, much like the other 73, is likely to be complete b.s. It's almost comical.

I'll believe it when I see a press conference.

nothing in this article makes me think it's any more than the yearly "andy and roger want to go back to NY" bullsh!t.

not saying it's impossible that he signs there but i'm not believing anything the media says until it's done.

If Eaton & Wolf get 8MM/yr and Padilla gets 11MM/yr, Pettitte has to be worth at least 15. That would be too rich for my blood if I'm the Astros.

This is the best part: With 186 career wins, he also would have the chance of winning his 200th game.

Ok Tommy boy, you are telling me he couldn't do that in houston? Let me guess, it's because of that pop gun offense in Houston? Oh wait, pettitte won 14 games last year with that offense. And he now has Carlos Lee supporting him?

    This article is a joke.

I think if he wanted to be a Yankee, he would have done so years ago...I think they didn't want him so unless its a crapload of money, I don't see it happening...

Please. If he wants to be back in an Astros uniform, the salary will not stop the parties from making an agreement. They need him back.

If it comes up on ESPN I might get a little worried, but they've made no mention of it in their updates from the winter meetings.

I agree. I think Drayton will be willing to shell out the money to bring Andy back, especially if he thinks Roger will follow suit. If we can't get Andy though we're going to have to resort to trading away Willy, Burke, or some young pitching to acquire another starter.

The New York media always try to sway things in favor of their team. I read some place that Lebron James wants to sign with the Knicks when his contract is through years and years from now. I say take what you hear from the New York media regarding their own teams with a grain of salt.

the reporter on WFAN who is at the mtgs said that Hendricks said that the SI report is false. He DID say that Hendricks told him that Andy is leaning towards playing again and should have a decision by Dec 22
