Considering 26 is about 2 NBA rosters and there are only ~30 teams in the NBA, it's nothing to scoff at.

Yeh, but let's say JJ was really pissed, he put down JVG's name, then he told a few players on the teams he was traded to; then you add SF, maybe even Cato, Mobley. So I can see that. ;)

I think the proper usage is "disapproval rating," given the context in your post. Carry on.

Without reading the entire thread thus far (I saw a Yao argument and decided to skip it) this really comes as no surprise to me. Considering that your average NBA player's desire to work hard is about on the level of a 3rd grader's desire to clean his room, it isn't shocking that a coach like JVG has 26 or so players who dislike him. You add that to the fact that he hasn't won a championship and it makes it easier.

Any NBA player who says Larry Brown is a bad coach because he is too hard on the players is considered an idiot because LB has won. JVG doesn't have that luxury yet.

I don't think working hard is an issue. Sure, some players are lazy. But generalizing that to "the average player" is unfair.

When you judge the players' opinion, you have to ask: What do they care about most. And how do these things translate into their perception of coaches. I think the number one thing a player cares most is his basketball career. The second is winning.

If I were a player, I would love a coach if he could make my basketball career better. That includes helping me develop my skills, making good use of my skills, and making me look good on and off the court.

That said, the poll is a very small sample size if you consider an average NBA player has played for probably only 3 or 4 coaches. How can you judge a coach when you have never played for him?

Yet the flip side of this is that with IR your own team consists of 15 or so players. Take away the new scrubs, and your still at about 12 players. If even JVGs TEAM would of voted for him he would of merely needed about oh...lets say 5 players across the NBA to vote for him to crack the top coaching list. How much you wanna bet that JVG didnt get half the votes from his own team.

I bet he didn't get any of the votes from his own team, because players were not allowed to vote for their own coach.
