First off I have to say I am not a big fan of JH. However, I really don't understand all these Howard bashing in this forum. For a guy who makes 6M last season, he gave us a solid 11.8 PPG, 6.7 RPG, 46% FP, 81% FT, 1.4 AS, and 1.6 TO in just 31 minutes. What you guys want from him? Besides, he is one of the role-modle type of player with perfect professionalism. Honestly, I personally think he is one of the best mid-ranger shooter in this league although his D can be better. I agree we can probably do a little better with his 6M salary however this is come with our star Tmac. So why don't guy deal with it?!!
Yeah, Kelly, give us the inside scoop on this article -- the author is so misinformed it's almost comical. It seems as if he truly knows nothing about the Rockets, have never seen them play, and hasn't glanced at an injury and/or draft report in a few years. This "scouting report" appears to be pieced together from a bunch of articles found on RealGM, HoopsWorld, and other random internet forums. There's no way the guy that wrote this was an actual NBA scout -- right??? Do you actually know who wrote the article? I guess I can understand not giving away his identity, but he seems so clueless that he couldn't have ever been hired by an NBA team.
You are seriously overstating Howrad, , best mid-ranger shooter in this league? Granted, his jumpshot it ok, but probably no better than half of the people in this league. Most of his points come off his jump shots and besides that he can't drive to the basket or post up well. Oh yeah, and Luther Head blocked the same number of shots as Juwan Howard. And I'll take Head over Howard anyday.
When was this written? It had to be a long time ago because he is not up to date with the rockets real issues. This article is garbage, come on talking about BOB SURA, he's on the verge of retirement and there is nothing about kilbill and novak. Wasn't worth reading.
Read this site, I highly recommend it. First, click on the Rockets and check out Juwan's stats. Then go to the league leader's page, which is a sortable database with every player in the league who played a certain time requirement (even for guys who didn't meet this requirement, you can just check their stats on their team's page, then see how it compares to the players who did make it). Sort the list according to a variety of stats, such as PER (overall rating), TS% (FG% adjusted for 3pt, and FT shooting), and REB-r (percentage of available rebounds a player grabs while on the floor), and try to find where Juwan stands. Hint: he's near the bottom. Juwan's FG% and FT% don't matter. 0.46 FG% is actually not that good at all for a starting big man. His FT% isn't much of a factor because he doesn't go into the paint and draw a decent number of fouls. It doesn't matter that Juwan only got "just 31 minutes" per game, his per-minute scoring is still just average. He's bottom 10 in rebounding % among big men in that list, and his overall PER rating is quite low. Juwan is lousy, and shouldn't be starting.
no different than the tons of people here who seriously undervalue what he does. Yea ok..he isnt a beast on D...but he isnt a matador either. Yea..ok..he doesnt block shots...he has never been known for that...just like plenty of players in this league over the years I will gladly admit I dont want him starting...but he is a decent backup bigman on several teams easily. a slightly overpaid backup...but still..if you believed eveything you read about him here...you'd think he was no more skilled than guys who would struggle to make a D-League roster. which obviously isnt true since he has had a long career in this league. fairly consistent jumper to 15'....check decent post game....check drives to the basket.....ok..got me there. but that isnt necessarily a skill you must have to succedd in this league. yea...good job there...comparing apples to oranges. Im sure Luther can fill in at the 4 or 5 just about everyday of the week. Dont get me wrong...if you asked me to decide who to keep on my team between the two of them..Id take Luther...but that hardly metters to this discussion...
I stop reading articles once they mention crap like "I would choose fast, hybrid big man over traditional stud big man". Um...what teams keep winning titles?? Heat (Shaq), Spurs (Duncan), Pistons (Wallaces), Lakers (Shaq)
His take on how we were pushing hard for Mike James bc JVG doesn't like Rafers style of play then describes Rafer's style as exactly how most people would describe M James. Makes me wonder if he has seen either actually play in a game. Then he brings up the same misconception(sp) that many even on this site have that JVG doesn't want his teams to push the ball up the court. I've seen him since the first year he was here urging SF to push the ball. He's always wanted a strong defensive team, but also wants his teams to push the ball. Just b/c your not flinging the rock around like the Suns doesn't mean you're not trying to push the ball.
There is one thing he said which I agree with. The offense doesn't seem to flow very well between McGrady and Yao. How effective can McGrady be for three quarters when the Rockets are primarily running their offensie through Yao? If the game in Dallas was any indication (and maybe it's not), then this is something that is a real concern. It's a big issue for me in the upcoming season. How does McGrady handle the role of being a second banana to Yao.
Juwan is average. There is no crime in that, particularly since he makes just a tad over the MLE, which is the average salary for the league. I'm sure that in '95, teams weren't exactly worried about Chucky Brown and Carl Herrera, but those two started in a combined 40 games after OT was traded. However, both were professionals, came out and played hard every night, and took care of their assignments. JHo does the same thing. Of course I would like to see a premier PF in the starting lineup, but JHo is hardly a liability.
True that the article is pretty much bogus, esp when the guy starts to mention rafers style of play and sura being an impact guy off the bench but did no one agree with the first few paragraphs? I do think it is a problem how are team is oriented as yao then tracy or tracy then yao, i would like to see some more flow of the team, if we have another year of throw it to yao and stand around an watch, it will only work for so long. There has to be movement in the offense. I just hope we do find the right amount of chemistry considering we have added (IMO) two guys who when on the floor, deserve the ball or a chance to score...in Novak(if he continues to shoot such a high percentage) and Bonzi.
this guy's talking about t-mac being a fluff??? THAT's lebron! sorry man but his shot is whack and w/o the athleticism that comes at his young age.. he isn't any better than vspan. also... jacobsen is garbage.. this scout needs to get fired.... not very accurate..
if you give me the names of the players of the chinese basketball team i could write a scouting report which is just as acurate as this. well it was a fun read. at least i got to laugh at this idiot.
OOO. Uh, but he does have that athleticism so he is just a little better than V-Span. The article sucks but that doesn't change a whole lot in the league, certainly not Lebron's worth...
Opposed to what rafers reputation as a street baller is, he is nothing like that in the nba. Sure he tries to play fast and may make a few mistakes but of all the things that are wrong with him, i have no problem with the way he brings the ball up the court. This scout sucks.
