yea I agree with the poster where as everyone talks about lebron winning loads of championships down the line, I think his window is smaller than most others because of his dependance on his athleticism.

Kobe obviously has lost some athletic ability and doesnt have the same spring albeit still considerably athletic. But he has his pristine and mastered mid range, post moves, and scorer mentality where is still able to manage.
Jordan was able to do the same for his come back in his 30s although less athletic than before and then we saw him come back at 40 even less athletic yet still drop 20+ because of those similar qualities

Lebron on the other hand, and maybe this is what players notice, lives and dies with his athleticism, so when he loses just a little of his spring when he hits 30 like kobe did, his game is just going to close on him and really limit the freedom he has now.

Also i think players who voted might've played in the 90s where there was more of a rough play and physical play which kobe played through but lebron since he started the league the nba has taken our hand checking and so on, so i guess Ill admit that he is the most athletic player in the league and with his jumpshot(finally) that he improved on this year he is dangerous and a top player but I can't comfortably call him the most skilled player in the league who I would give to Kobe. And i think some people just appreciate pure skill over athleticism, not to say lebron is not skilled he clearly is and has a high awareness of his game, but its overshadowed with his freak athleticism and perhaps to reliant on the latter.

For all those guys that think its people who are envious, kobe has his haters in the league too, yet he did not receive one vote for overrated, not even a single vote...so you can tell he has his respect, liked or disliked, around the league. And he was voted most feared to guard as well in a previous SI poll.

Lebron already has 15,000 pts. He is the best player in the game.

Some of these posts are begging Kobe for a reach around.

It doesn't really matter how LeBron does it, guys. Fact is, he has the best production, and that makes him the best scorer, right now. Not ten years from now, not ten years in the past, but right now.

So what if he relies a lot on his athleticism? (He has elite ball-handling skills, passing skills, court vision, and touch around the rim, too, by the way.) The point is, regardless of his means of accomplishing what he does, the results are the most efficient, highest volume scoring in the game today.

Let's also not forget that he is still quite young. Considering his basketball instincts and the skills he does have, as well as the improvement he's made on his jumper over the past few years, I wouldn't put it past him at all to learn all the other things necessary to keep his game working well into his thirties.

dam all of u are missing the point, its goin right over yalls head

Kobe is the most dangerous/feared player of this generation.. Lebron is a stat machine but will never inspire fear in opposing players the way Kobe does, its no comparison whos more cerebral..

Lebron is overrated and I tend to agree with one of the most recognizeable and credible magazine ever

I'll believe the players who actually playing against him rather than the fans who read stat lines to back up their statements

LeBron is far from overrated. After reading most of this thread I guess it is time to call him underrated.

There is not one player that is playing in today's game that could carry that supporting cast like LeBron has the last few years.

LMAO @ lebron being overrated. You guys are ridiculous. He's only 24. He took his team to the Finals when he was 22. That's about the age where Kobe won his first title......with SHAQ. MJ didn't win a ring until he was 27. You know who Lebron took to the Finals with him? Larry Hughes and Big Z.

Let's see, his team has the best record in the NBA, shoots a ridiculous 50% from the field (47% career) and is a triple double threat every night. Yet, he's overrated? Sure. When it's all said and done, LeBron has a chance to be better than Kobe and Jordan. Did I mention he's only 24?

If we are talking about individual skill and talent, then LeBron is not overrated. If we are talking about their hype in comparison to what they've accomplished in the NBA, then LeBron and Tracy should be tied at 1st.

Yeah, we need more coaches voting.

Like the ones who gave David Lee, Andre Miller, and James Posey All-Defensive team votes last year.

Or the ones that gave Chris Bosh, Deron Williams, Baron Davis, and Rip Hamilton votes the year before that.

Or Gilbert Arenas and Allen Iverson (he gets steals!) votes the year before that.

We need more of that. The guys that make All-Stars out of Wally Szczerbiak and Jamaal Magliore. Those guys. They know what's up.

The guys that give Ryan Bowen and Sean Marks minutes. The guys that bench 20-ppg rookies like Darren Collison and Marcus Thornton. The guys that don't sit home at night watching 10 games, and on average see an opposing team twice per year. The guys that will bench a 23-year old big man after a 12-point quarter because he, I don't know, didn't properly look the coach in the eye following a timeout, and then call the player's work "irrelevant." The guys who, even anonymously, have no agenda to speak of. None at all!

It always charms me that the people who still think Kobe is anywhere near LeBron's class always have the worst grammar, spelling, et cetera. Makes me feel like I'm doing something right.

I have not noticed such a preference for "most dangerous player".

BTW, here is what the GMs say:

    http://www.nba.com/news/features/gmsurvey.players/index.html

Who do you think is more informed about how well other players are performing? GMs or players?

Coaches do get a say in the voting for some honors/awards, including all Defense-teams and all-star reserves.

Player voting is not a good idea. Disproportionate amount of biases and hero-worshiping going on there.

He might have been the most hyped prospect ever maybe except for kareem or wilt considering he made the cover of SI as a high schooler, and 20000 people saw his high school games. Just the fact he has managed to pretty much meet those expectations is incredible.

    Really?

    Lets see....

LeBron averages 2 points a game more

LeBron takes 2 LESS shots a game than Kobe

LeBron shoots nearly 5% higher from the field than Kobe

LeBron gets to the line 3 times a game more than Kobe

LeBron shoots 3% better from the 3-point line

Kobe shoots better from the free throw line than LeBron

NOPE.... LeBron is the better offensive player now

He is 24 years old and not surrounded with the talent that Bird or Kobe was. He has taken a team to the Finals once, the ECF and probably the Finals this year all before he has turned 25 years old.

If he does not win titles, then your points may be valid.... right now they are not.

He will probably go down as one of the 2-3 greatest players ever, but it is too early to say.

The argument in favor of Kobe isn't based on what he does over the course of an entire game, but rather what he is capable of doing in the most crucial possessions. In particular, if the opposing team is a good defensive team and they have prevented a score in transition, when a score is absolutely needed which player gives you more of an advantage -- LeBron or Kobe?

I think that's how those who favor Kobe in this argument will look at it.

Yes for sure LeBron doesn't have a ''Go-to move'' nor an amazing jumper but he is still 24 years old, he is younger than Brandon Roy. Did Jordan have that jumper at 24? Was Kobe an amazing post-presence at 24? No I don't think so.

LeBron is already shooting a better % from 3 than Kobe, by the time he is 30 I'm pretty sure he will have at least a good post game and is jumper who is actually pretty good will be far better.

Kobe didn't have the ceiling that LeBron has.
