I guess only one team has ever won over 70 games....I would think 69 would be a good mark, because it was matched by the Bulls against 71-72 Lakers.

I think in today's NBA it is unreachable, unless it is a team from the East.

The Lakers haven't even played every one, yet and have only had about 5 or 6 real road games.

It can be reached, but they need alot of 12 and 13 game winning streaks, thing is they have alot of tough road games and consecutive games against teams over .500 in 09.

You have to have very few injuries for it to happened and you have to be like miles better than most of teams under you.

I think the Lakers are the front runners in the West, but I don't believe that they are outstandingly better than those eight or nine other playoff teams. If they reach 70 wins that means that they would most likely have to sweep a majority of them....I just don't see them winning alot of those road games...they would only be spared 5 to 11 losses on the road. Meaning they could only lose about 1 to 7 games at home.

From my observation through the years, Phil Jackson seldom gives credit to the opponents.

the reason is the guelling traveling across time zones.

Dallas is centrally located, relatively speaking. their traveling, in terms of crossing time zones and length of travel, does not compare with the West Coast teams. So, in the context of this discussion, Dallas would not be a valid comparison

Not to nitpick, but travelling is a lot easier on NBA players now than it was 35+ years ago. Not even close. So like I said, the 06/07 Mavs are still a much more valid comparison than the 71/72 Lakers. Again, travel is an issue, but boredome and focus are bigger ones. This Lakers team is very deep and they can spread around the minutes. What they are NOT is mature.

It's all a moot point because most of us agree they won't win 70 games. PJ certainly won't go there because he doesn't want those kinds of expectations.

BrooksBall predicted they would win 70, so they won't. I say 65 or 66 games with the next highest team (Houston) at 60.

Why is all the talk about the lakers hitting 70+ when the celtics are currently ahead of them at 18-2? The lakers are still figuring out their defense, the celtics have it down pat.

I dont think theyll hit 70, though less than 65 seems improbable as well. But lets just all be glad they did NOT hit 15-0

Last time i checked the Celtics are still the defending champion and having better W-L records than the fakers yet all the media and kobe wankers on this board are talking about the fakers getting 70 wins!

As long as we get 16 win in the playoffs, i could care less about the regular season

as long as we have a top 3 record im good

I'm still not convinced when it comes to the Lakers. Even we, as bad as we were playing, got a double digit lead on them. I saw the Lakers three days ago, and the Celtics play the Blazers. The big difference was the Celtics played 48 minutes of tough defense, while the Lakers drift in and out of games.
I can see the Laker's losing some more games when their schedule gets tougher and they play the better teams. Things always seem good in L.A when they are winning games. When they start losing though, Kobe's menstrual cycle kicks in.

Why do they commute to the east coast 22 times a season? There are only 15 Eastern conference teams, and you play each once on the road. And many of those are in 3-4 game east coast road trips. I'd imagine they only make the cross-country trip a handful of times over the course of the season.

Looking at the schedule, they go to the east coast 4 times this year, and 3 of those trips have a stop in the middle of the country first. One of them (Washington/Philly) is already done.
