Francis is light years better than either JL3 or V-Mac even if his boneheadedness and dribble-mania hadn't changed. But I am pretty sure he has changed a lot since he left.

Before we traded him, we were driven crazy by the dissonance of his good side and his bad side. I said back then that Steve would be a great role player but a bad franchise player. He has heart. He is fearless. He can score in a bunch. He's a great rebounder for a guard. He's not a great defender but he always plays hard. That's exactly what you want from a role player.

I used to think that Wade was Francis-light. Now you can think of Francis as the poor man's Wade.

If we can sign him for the minimum, it should be a no brainer.

I think if we can sign him, we'll be able to win the championship this year or next. The only thing that concerns me is at the power four position. But then we'll be able to play small ball with the likes of Dallas and Phoenix.

    Howard/Hayes
    Battier/T-mac
    T-Mac/Bonzi
    Head/T-Mac/Bonzi/Stevie
    Alston/T-Mac/Stevie

I really believe that match up would kill any team. Not to mention throwing Yao in the mix. I don't believe Yao will be able to help us til latter part of March early April which is good.

The only bad part is going to be rebounding but we're not the best defensive rebounding team in the league for nothing now.

    something to ponder on...

why is there two threads discussing the same thing in the top 5 threads?? because your thread title is way below par. this boards quality is made up by the community.

let's try creating a better title next time so a)we get an idea what the thread is about and b)we don't get a bunch of "lock it up" posts in different threads"

a suggestion, Title: [SI.com] Francis buyout, destination Houston?

you do realize we lost to dallas last game and have yet to beat phoenix....we could use all the help we can get in the playoffs.

apparently you are not thinking long term this season

thats like saying dont bring Yao back from the injury, we have too good of a record and chemistry without him...

you always gather assets, when and how you use em or not is a different story.

Ya know... "Trashed" wasnt the best word to use. But it is close. What he said was that Van Gundy tried to make him a different kind of player, expressed great displeasure, and blamed Van Gundy solely for the reason his shooting percentage and points dropped so dramatically. It was clear he didnt buy into his philosophy. He did "trash" our management though. But that doesnt concern me as much.

McGrady could make life easier for Steve, being the assist man that he is.

I'd worry about an ego trip from them both, though, chemistry issues for the team...

Could the Knicks be attempting to "get something" from the Rockets for releasing Francis "early?" They can do this (buyout Francis) anytime they want to. Could be they are using the trade deadline to get some of the TE from us, for a player they no longer want, in a wink-wink deal. Just popped into my head. Should have popped right out again, lol!

Looking at how he played with the Knicks it seems he really became a piont guard instead of a shooting guard and also lately he has become a much better shooter.

He's not only an upgrade over Span, Lucas, Head, he's also an upgrade over Alston.

Exactly, he could basically play the role Span could play when he's ready. Fill in that gap at backup pg. Then Rafer can only play big minutes when his shot it on.

Welcome back, SF! I can't wait to see we have SF, TM and YM on the court for Rockets. Nothing is impossible!

I wouldn't mind if Stevie came back to the Rockets. I think he could strengthen our bench by making Rafer a backup, and Stevie's another proven scorer to take some defensive attention away from doubling Yao or TMac.
    PG: Francis
    SG: TMac
    SF: Battier
    PF: JH or Chuck
    C: Yao
Bench: Bonzi, Head, Alston, JH or Chuck, Deke

Triangle offense has nothing to do with having 3 scorers...

i admit i havent watched much of the knicks, but the little I watched was a bad flashback. I remember one particular game..the knicks have not scored in 3-4 trips down the court. SF decided to go ISO on the left wing, dribbles, dribbles, drives to the basket as though to draw a foul, but no one fouls him. He finally emerges on the right side of the court and throws a pass to a teamate with 1 or 2 seconds left on the clock. The TV pans to Isiah with a pissed expression. Steve also has that sheepish "what did i do wrong look". Steve is benched rest of the game.

Steve is good. He has always been. But he refuses to learn how to play right. There is no reason why he would start now. NO TO STEVE. I'd take a SNyder prototype over Steve anyday. Anyone can have 15-20ppg per night if you hold the ball long enough.
