Maybe, preseason stories are all about potential and what's new. I could see a Yao, T-mac, Ron-ron cover. It would sell a bunch of copies in China.
I doubt it. Houston gets "No Respect" around the country. If we do, it would be because Yao has so many fans, that they would make a ton of money. Yes Sports Illustrated, had a cover of Houston's Championship team, I have one also. But if I remember correctly S.I. didn't put one out at first and Houston got in a uproar about it. So they released a special edition about couple of weeks later.
They could always do regional covers like they do with College Football or College Basketball Put the Lakers on a cover for the West Coast, the Celtics on one for the East Coast and put the Rockets on one for South and the Cavs or just LeBron on one for the Midwest.
The KG trade was huge. This Artest trade is big, but not as big as the KG deal was at the time. Just my opinion.
i have that one too... the specially made one for texas because apparently the nba championship team isn't as important as soccer? atleast we got a headline...
well Yao was on the NBA preview issue his rookie year I still have that magazine somewhere with him standing holding a ball in each hand with his arms stretched out. but honestly the rockets havent done anything and aren't in a big market so if they get the cover i would be honestly shocked especially when you have two media darlings in boston and LA being defending champions from their respective conferences. my bet its going to be kobe, gasol and bynum on the cover with something like: who is going stop them now or something as a headline.
I always thought Tiger Woods held that title... Anyway, I think Boston is going to be on the cover again. And, Houston will get a blurb at the bottom of page 42, in the bottom right corner of the page.
I think our "Big Three" will be on the cover with some type of "Are the Rockets finally for real now...?" type of headline.
I could see a natural story in the Yao-Artest duo. The odd couple, with the respectable, clean-cut, do-right Chinese Yao and self-proclaimed ghetto Artest bridging the gap between worlds to win a championship together. But, I still doubt SI would put them on the cover. They'll see Bynum's return to the Lakers lineup as similarly important. Boston was on the cover last year because many thought last offseason that Boston was a favorite to win the championship. I think LA and Boston are still favorites to win next season.
I honestly dont think they will and I think it will be a good thing I dont want us to be in the spotlight too much I'd rather be the underdog and sneak up on everyone who doesn't think too highly of us but then again this IS our year
