Haha. Sorry to let you down. :p

Anyhow, I would say move on altogether but the Rockets will do and decide what they want to do.

What is last time? When he finished out a season averaging 20/10?

But it probably won't be for the minimum and it probably won't be for one year. Yao's people are too smart for that.

    :(

no way he agrees to this... he already has his own Chinese restaurant.

I would give him a 3yr/Pay per Play deal - Max of $82 dollars/yr in the regular season. If you make the playoffs... $2 per game played. $5 in playoff wins in the first year.

If he plays the entire year, injury free - double the pay as an incentive the following year.

Do what they did with Deke, sign him to the minimum and donate some money to a charity of Yao's choice.

Or just sign him to the minimum??

There's absolutely no proof that Yao will ever last a full season of basketball again.
There's little proof that he'll meaningfully contribute to a team over the course of a season
There's a little proof that he might not be any good on the court at all anymore.

Vet minimum 2 years with team option for the second year.

Thing is, let's say Les pays him 3 mil for 2 years. He doesn't have to do much at all. He could be an All-star or sit on the bench for 90% of the game, either way, he's going to bring money to the team. I think they, the management, want him to contribute but at the same time, they want the $$$$$. As much as I hate to same this, the way things are looking, his role with "future plans" is probably limited to publicity.

An incentive-heavy contract would be nice.

It all depends on what the Docs tell Yao/Morey/Les. It will probably be 2012-13 before we see him again so the veterans minimum till he proves he is back, should be about right.

i think its not completely absurd to imagine maybe down the line, hed get all his stars in order and suddenly pull off a season being injury-free and be a big factor for the team in the playoffs.

i know this type of optimism is frowned upon and will be followed with amusing cynical posts in the hundreds :(

If they give him B.Miller money, I think that would be fair, just to be a locker room presence and a mature guy.

I think Darrly being Daryl....he'll find a way to structure the contract so that the substance of the contract becomes an insurance option such that if Yao returns, the rockets will be able to extend him under the same cap hold amount.

    Lemme illustrate what i mean:

the contract will be structured lik this: heavily incentive base, such that if Yao fails those incentives (game time), then he'll only get maybe 2 million. In essense, the rockets will be able to retain Yao Ming's cap hold in order to resign him to a larger contract if and when he returns.

Because if Yao really becomes a free agent and no contract is signed before the start of the season, then when Yao actually returns the year after, I think Yao's salary will counts back towards the CAP HOLD, and the rockets will need to use their MLE to sign Yao if they are over the cap at that time.

Again, I am not too sure about the cap hold rules, especially since it'll change wiith a new CBA. But I am sure Morey will structure something lik what I mention out.
