Speaking of Knicks, if you go now to wikipedia site of Mike D'antoni, there's this: I guess it's pretty juvenile but I have to admit I lolled when I strolled through that site.
The Lakers are the Lakers so if, by some miracle, Kobe decides to go to the Knicks it will take one or so years to acquire the NEXT great Laker star. EVERYONE in the NBA or College would be just fine playing in LA for a great organization and remember even if he does leave they will still have an ALL-Star PF, Bynum who should be an All-Star next season and Odom who for all his laziness still can be a force. Just add another stud SG in via trade to that puzzle and the Lakers are right back at the top while probably going from a 60 win team to a 50 win team in the meanwhile.
you have to take into consideration that PJ will no longer be there as well, Artest will prolly bolt and Bynum will never be an All-Star. Otherwise, I agree.
Phil Jackkksssoonnn will probably be gone but someone will eventually take his place as the NEXT great Laker coach. Artest is locked into a long term deal and while I am sure he wanted to play with Kobe, LA was more the appeal and honestly the Lakers probably would want him gone after next season anyway. Bynum never an all-star??? Really??? If not by the fan vote, assuming Yao doesn't get voted in by the Chinese, then the coaches will surely pick him. Bynum is a 22 yr old center who avgs 15 and 8 now imagine him getting more touches and experience, 20 and 10 is his ceiling. The dude issue is health, that would be the only reason he doesn't fulfill his full potential.
The Knicks are pulling a variation of the rope a dope on us. We laugh at them now....but soon they own Kobe, Lebron, Mac, Bosh, Lee. Not even possible money wise...but, who cares.
Good understanding of the salary cap, there, Frankie! If, by "fraction of his $22.5 million salary", you are referring to a fraction as small as about 1/20th of that salary, then yes, you are correct. If you mean a fraction like half, a third or even 1/8th, then you are sadly mistaken. The Knicks would have to renounce their rights to McGrady in order to sign even one max player, unless McGrady re-signs first for a low enough salary. And that salary would have to be the league's veteran minimum in order to have nearly enough cap room to get two max guys like Kobe and Bosh. In fact, depending on where the actual salary cap figure hits, the veteran minimum might even be too much, since it would be several hundreds of thousands more than a "roster charge" if they just renounced him. So, if you're going to throw out "stars" who would have to play for the minimum in order to be a Knick alongside any two max players, we might as well throw out names like David Lee re-signing for the minimum; Raymond Felton coming to New York for the league minimum; Carlos Boozer playing for the minimum. Wow, that would be a GREAT team! Dude needs to learn his salary cap rules.
I heard on Peter Vecsey's radio show that the Knicks have unearthed a Mayan amulet that will let them bring back Wilt Chamberlain from the dead and sign him for the veteran's minimum last year. Right now the only thing that's stopping them from using the amulet is Walsh's unwillingness to move the Knicks' 2014 1st Rounder.
Sorry, Bimathug, but I have to disagree about the Knicks signing both Kobe and Bosh as 2 max free agents. I think the Knicks would only have enough cap space to sign a Bosh to about $9.5 mil contract, if they signed Kobe and took the roster charge hit. Kobe's contract is currently one of the largest contracts in the NBA. Signing Kobe to the max, would mean that he would get 105% of his previous salary($23 mil) instead of the max being just 30% of the salary cap like Lebron. The Knicks would have to sign Kobe to a $24.1 mil contract. The Knicks have $17.8 mil in committed salary for 2010-11. It would gave them $41.9 mil($24.1+$17.8) in team salary. That's 5 players, before counting Bosh. So you 6 roster charge hits and leave 1 spot for Bosh. That's $2.7 mil (6 x $450k), then their salary would be at $44.6 mil ($41.9+2.7 mil). If the salary cap ends up being $54 mil, that leaves the 12th spot to Bosh for $9.4 mil. http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#Q11 http://hoopshype.com/salaries/la_lakers.htm http://hoopshype.com/salaries/new_york.htm http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#Q11
You're absolutely right. My point was more about not being able to have T-Mac on top of ANY two max guys. But your point is well-taken that the Knicks likely can't add a "max Kobe" and any other max free agent. (By the way, the same holds true for Amare, although to a much lesser extent.)
Geez, these guys love their New York conspiracy theories! Hell why doesn't the leg just hold a league wide redraft and let the Knicks have the first 3 picks. Seems that's what all of the Hacks...(cough + wink)..."experts" seem to want. Believe or not there is this thing called a salary cap that will limit what New York will be able to do.
I know nothing is a 100 % in life, but Kobe staying with the Lakers is as about as close as it gets. Kobe has a keen sense of his place in history. Not only Lakers history, but NBA history. Numbers are very important to this guy. Let us also not forget, there is no way Kobe with his ego will take less money to go anywhere.
Kobe will wait till how far the lakers go in the playoffs, so if he gets the championship or even the finals, he can ask for a huge contract. and btw, why the media always makes rumors about big name players going to NY? a long time ago, you could hear about Michael Jordan going to the Knicks, at least 2 years you could hear about Lebron going to the Knicks, and now Kobe? When the knicks has got a superstar by free agency? at least in the last 20 years the only big superstar they got was Ewing
Not gonna happen in a million years. The knicks have a better chance of getting pistol pete to play for them then they do kobe
"perhaps (used a few times)", "theory", "speculate", "may", are all pretty vague words. Either this guy knows something everyone else doesn't or the playoffs need to get here ASAP so we can argue about terrible refs, superstar treatment, and how the Rockets would have done better against the lakers than "fill in 8th seed here" instead of speculating about free agents.
