No dogs were harmed when he left the Rockets.

    correction.

    5. when you are the proud member of the 1st team to win a championship, then:
    a. you don't get a contract extension you expect in the off season
    b. you lose your starting job

I'm not saying he went about this correct way, i'm just saying he went about it his own way. and guess what? Clyde got all the playing time too. How gracious!

    Hey Andymoon,
you know it was about the contract right?

    http://www.chron.com/CDA/archives/archive.mpl?id=1994_1239045

"When I'm playing defense, I feel like I can stop anybody. I just feel real confident in all aspects of the game right now."

Perhaps the new attitude comes from the Rockets' success last season, when Maxwell played so magnificent a role throughout the playoffs, especially in the Game 7 win over the New York Knicks in the Finals.

Maybe the transformation has come about because of a preseason contract squabble, during which Maxwell threatened a January walkout. The dispute has been put on hold, probably until after the league settles its collective-bargaining-agreement problems.

maxwell wasn't the same player after the Rockets, he kept bouncing around teams. That Sixers team really sucked. They made Maxwell the POINT GUARD. Being a big Max fan, I know that's not his specialty, even though he's probably a better point guard than Rafer and got a decent amount of assists when he played. However, Maxwell helped tutor a young Allen Iverson in his stint. Iverson let Vernon be his house guest and considered Vernon his best friend on the Sixers. You can see the Maxwell fire under Iverson and Cassell both guards he mentored.

However, if you watch (I think the 130 mark?) Maxwell had nice words to say about Jordan and Pippen. :p

I was at this Rockets game, 1994 or so. The tip off goes to Maxwell and he takes three steps and launches a patented early shot clock, long three, misses and yells "F**K!!!!" really loud with his eyes closed and gets an instant T. All in like... 8 seconds of play. B.S. refs. I really like that memory.

They wern't playing around with vernon.

i remember when Vernon was with Seattle and they came to play the Rox, i think we lost that game cause Gary Payton was destroying us. Anyways they put Vernon in the 4th quarter and I went down to the lower level and I yelled during a play "VERNON!" and he looked up!!

When I was courtside seeing the Blazers play us and I yelled at Pippen he never acknowledge me. Its shows that Vernon listens to the fans :)

"Believe it again" had nothing to do with Maxwell.

Of course it did. He got the second ring. I know that makes you feel like happy like a Menthos commercial too!

Vernon is great player with bad character. He is and always will be our star from CS but he is too problematic you can't argue with that.

i love that the Rockets back in the day had some many different personalities, it reflects how real society is and is a perfect example of how people so different can join forces to win a championship.

Dennis Rodman won some championships, that guy was 'problematic'

Tinman - I love your stuff! Really brings back the memories from HS and before. Got to say, Max made some personal mistakes OFF the Court, but I absolutely love the guy as well as ALMOST all the rest of the players that ever wore the catchup and mustard unis - the only exception being Pip.

Where's the love for a few you left off?... to name a few - Moses Malone -the BIG E - Bill Fitch - Jim Petersen (game 4 vs. Boston)- Granville Waiters (game 6 - I think) vs. Denver, "At the Buzzer" with Hannah Storm, McCoy McLemour, Bill Worrell, Scotty Brooks, Sweet Lew, Purvis Short, World B. Free, Mr. Mean, Mitchell Wiggins, the Half-Court shot attempt for a new car/truck from a Charlie Thomas dealership ;)

BTW -thanks for intentionally leaving Leavell, 2 Sandwiches and Dirk Minniefield off the list :)

I may be in the minority, but it's great to see an "old time" Rox fan post that actually knows their stuff and backs it up. Keep it up!

that was a awesome post Ming Dynasty! Thanks for giving the rest of the playas some love. I still love Sweet Lou even tho he did drugs. John Lucas and Mitch Wiggins gets the love despite the drug problem. Carl Herrera gets love despite the IRS problem too.
I also have to give love to David Wood cause I randomly met that guy when I was a kid.

    LOL! No he didn't.

What a dumb ass Mad Max is. All that talent and money and all down the drain.

Can't believe I forgot him

Cool, you met DWood - I met Sweet Lew at a Stop & Go in my neighborhood (I grew up in the Memorial/Town And Country area). Met Ralph, Bill Fitch and Rudy T at the airport as they were fixing to play Boston in the finals in '86. Met Dream at the press entrance at the Summit (when the actually had to walk to their cars instead of parking below the Summit).

Horry took a photo with me in (in '99 when he was with LA and they beat us in the playoffs - he was a class act) incidentally enough I also got a photo with Dusty Hill (ZZ Top) and Sam Mack the same day. Met Lucas when my mom was teaching HS at Northbrook (after the drug episode), met Mattress Mac at game 6 in '94. (At the same game - one of my friends saw Danny Glover & Mel Gibson, and another one of my friends met Spike Lee - although I really didn't know who he was at the time). Dr. J signed a ball for me at Game 6 of the Finals vs. the Knicks and Bil Walton said "Hi" to me. Moses Malone and Calvin at a free "meet the players thing for kids" when I was a kid in '79 or '80.

I sold programs for the Rox in '95 and got photos with Cassell & Drex, got a program signed by Rodman & D. Robinson (he wrote a Bible verse on my program) after we scalded them and he stole Dream's MVP trophy. ;)

Stevie autographed a ball for me his rookie season, Cat signed my oldest daughters shoe and Charles sigend a jersey for me after his last game ever in the NBA.

Anyway, the "Wood" comment brought back some of those memories. I miss those days! :D

Of course he listens to the fans, isn't that why he ran into the stands and pummeled that guy?
