The Rockets with T-Mac and Yao is not a team that you want to bring in a young coach and take your chances. You want to have a veteran coach that can take this team to the NEXT level. A guy with an impressive resume. JVG is never my taste. JVG's problems are always on offense, his inablities to fix a roaster that really compliments Yao and T-Mac well for a championship, and is sideline coaching. It's funny that this is the 4th season of his coaching in Houston and the roaster he put together still gets run over by Phoenix like they are dirt on the road. My choice of coach for the Rockets will be Larry Brown. Larry "who challenges you to the end of world and burns all the bridges down before he runs out of town" Brown. I think T-Mac and Yao really need a personality like Larry Brown to whip them every day in order to have motives for their relax souls. One more thing about Larry is that he can always pull some scrubs from CBA or bench players and make them nice role players for the team. To name a couple: Eric Snow, Raja Bell. And Larry's 2 year limit with a team fits T-Mac's retiring schedule pretty well. What a heavenly match!
Oh HELL NO !!!! I know Larry Brown, and he is a cancer far worse than JVG....I would sign JVG to a lifetime contract before signing Larry Brown. DD
I really dont care if Larry Brown is cancer or AIDS. But I am prettly sure the Rockets have a great chance to be in WCF and Final in his second year. Of course, if somehow you can get me Phil, I will drop Larry right the way.
Larry is far worse than JVG, he would have this team of fragile egos falling apart at the seams. Pass !! DD
I don't get if you don't like JVG, why would you like Larry Brown because they're the same breed of coaches. That being said, I like 'em both. But the only difference is that JVG is loyal to an organization and Brown is basically a one-night stand.
And Rick Adelman would absolutely be the wrong fit for this team. As long as we revolve our team around Yao, this team is always going to be slow and defensive. You can't have an offensive coach like Adelman, Don Nelson, etc. etc. coach this team because we'll never be Phoenix or Golden State or the old Sacramento with Yao. A guy who's 7'6" cannot exert so much energy all four quarters running that type of game. You must have a slow halfcourt offense to effectively use Yao or else he'll run out of gas by the first quarter.
Other teams copied the post-up and kick-out offense, so the league responded by bringing in the 3-pt line. That didn't work (Rockets still won), so they then tried to prevent the Barkley iso/post-up (can't remember the exact rule - something about the amount of time you could control the ball in the post). Then he started breaking down the defense with quick guards and the league responded by allowing zone defenses. That's at least 3 times Rudy caused the league to change the rules.
Good points - the Rowdies are an asset to the atmosphere at the arena. This is a realistic benchmark- I feel good about our chances of getting past Utah. If we get to the 2nd round- the players confidence can soar and we might over achieve to win some games if not a series. This is not out of the realm or possibility Go Rockets -we believe!
