how sad is this? someone hates a coach so much (a coach that has led this team for 50 win seasons and the playoffs) that he hopes his team loses. great fans houston has.
Only coaches of any stature listed is Larry Brown and Rick Adelman. SVG and Jim O'Brien is not on JVG's level. And for the fans who always wanna see Vspan and Novak, do you really think either one will get a chance to even take off their sweatshirt?? They had the #2 pick in the draft and he saw less time than what Vspan sees now, so what makes anyone think that a 2nd round pick would make the active roster. Rick Adelman would be an ideal offensive coach, but can we maintain our defensive identity if he was at the helm?? I always said I would love for him to be our assistant coach, but thats very unlikely. He's sure to get a head coaching slot somewhere. But I wouldn't mind us paying him head coach type money to be an assistant alongside JVG.

Well... I said "I think", so it is really an opinion. Granted, most of the time I am not thinking very well.
Scottie Brooks was on that list? Wow! Here's an interesting quote I came across regarding Scottie... (from the Rocky Mountain News) The Nuggets did not fare well without Karl last season. Former assistant Scott Brooks was the interim coach when Karl served two two- game suspensions, and Denver went 0-4. "I just hope we fare a whole lot better than we did when Scottie Brooks took over," Nuggets center Marcus Camby said. "It's going to be tough. A.D., with George being out, he'll have to be more vocal and make sure guys are together when things get a little thick down there." Should the understudy Dantley step into the lead role, his job will not be easy against a Lakers team that handled Denver 123-104 in Los Angeles on Jan. 5. The Nuggets have lost eight in a row at the Staples Center, but they can draw confidence from a 27-point rout of the Lakers at the Pepsi Center on March 15. Denver scored 25 fast- break points in that game. "You don't want to slow it down. That's one thing I emphasized (Monday)," Dantley said. "They need to push the ball up the court. I have plays set, but I'm not going to try to call that many plays. Just try to make 'em play basketball." Dantley, a six-time All-Star in 15 NBA seasons, is not completely new to calling a game http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/nba/article/0,2777,DRMN_23922_5460758,00.html Karl's son is very ill, a tragic story, and he's missing some games to be with him. Adrian Dantley is taking over this time.
No doubt about it JVG should get credit for all of that. Just as it should be pointed out that he took over a Knicks team that had been built by Pat Riley, and had a bunch of hungry veterans on the team. As soon as the team started to lose it, JVG decided to step down. I just don't think he is the right guy for the job, never have.....and it clearly effects my thoughts on him, in a severly biased manner. I do like the candor with the media, he is a lot like me actually, but I just wish he would be more creative in his coaching and have a plan B ready when team's shut down his plan A. Fair enough, you are correct it is not completly an apples to apples comparison. I was in favor of Cheney going, but you again are correct in that it is easy to love the Rudy T move now.....at the time, who knew that Rudy would be so good at it.....However, just comparing styles, I prefer Rudy T's style to JVG's, more of a motivator, I think players respond better to that Again, fair enough, and I have gone on record as saying if he wins in round one, he should get an extension and I will have to bury my bias...DEEP... If they lose to Utah in the first round, then it will depend on how the team responded in the series. I do have to admit that JVG is going to war with his guys, the way he wants to do it. He has sat Bonzi on the sidelines when he possibly could help, he has sat Snyder when he could play a bigger role, and he has not played V-Span as a 2nd creator at backup PG because he doesn't like the high risk/ high reward game that V-span plays. So, JVG has made his decisions and we shall all just have to see how it plays out. I will say one last thing, I think him buying the Red Rowdies tickets was a brilliant move on his part, last year the fans were starting to boo him in the arena, and everyone knows Les heard it too.....now, not so much...a very good move by JVG. DD
Few moves by anyone connected with the Rockets have been as brilliant as forming the Red Rowdies. I watch the games on LP, as I know you do, DD, and you can REALLY tell the difference. Over time, it has affected the rest of the crowd.
I think we need to consider hiring Phil Garner. He has proven to take his team to a championship series and excels at increasing stealing percentages and taking risks. The only problem is that he might be distracted by other things starting April and into May. But I like Phil Garner. He has more hair than JVG. That *has* to make him a better coach. More hair, more charm.
Stop drinking the JVG kool-aid. Look at the facts. Phil Garner has won more games every season than JVG. He's won 89-90 games in the regular seasons alone! That means in a regular NBA season, he will manage to squeeze in 89 wins out of an 82 game schedule. That is super amazing. What has JVG done? Nothing!
