this season is done. The team as constructed needed CP and Harden to be healthy to be any good. why because morey gave us a team with no bench relying on journeymen like Clark, House, Green, MCW and old man Nene. If one of CP or Harden are out, expect A LOT of losing. This team has no depth as it is, no way it can survive key injuries. We have no depth what we need is an infusion of talent in the form of a high 1st round draft choice. Shut down Paul and shut down Harden. Tank the season and MAYBE Morey can get his head out of his ass to acquire real NBA players off the bench this time instead of whatever the hell he was doing last offseason.
I agree with this. Since most teams in the Western Conference are competing for playoffs, we can very well end up with a shitty record a get a decent pick too.
Let's try predicting our next 10 games without Chris Paul Keep in mind the last time Chris Paul was out we lost to the Cavs and Wizards. How many wins can we get, against Spurs, OKC, Grizz, GSW, Portland, Celtics, Pelicans, Nuggets and Bucks. We lose them without tanking anyway, so why even risk injuring Harden who seems concussed already from tonight
Been saying this all ****ing season. It's not the end of the world when we tank one season for a good player. People here think that tanking = trading Harden but many orgs have just shut down their star player for the entire season just to tank. Grizzlies did this last year. Mike Conley was injured so they shut down a healthy Marc Gasol for the entire season so they can get a good pick and a chance at a top 3 pick. It's pointless to end up with a 9th or 10th seed or even an 8th seed with a 1st round exit. If you enjoy that kind of basketball, just be a fan of the team like the Blazers who clearly don't care about winning it all, they just want to make the playoffs every year for the extra money.
Winning streak = on top of the world feeling good, this team is headed in the right direction, looking like parts of last year's team Loss/losing streak = shut it down, this team is going nowhere, need to tank
When you factor in how capped out the team is and the lack of trade assets there are few other options to acquire talent.
December 23rd, 1994 Coming off the best season in franchise history, the Houston Rockets found themselves at a mediocre 14-9 following a loss at San Antonio. Dejected, they chose to shut down their reigning MVP, Hakeem Olajuwon, and tank the rest of the season. Either that, or they won a championship.
Morey is a smart man...but this type of dumbassery that was routine while he had a hard-on for Melo over the years is everything in a nutshell. You need depth and can't rely on just star power (which in Melo's case was misguided even wayback to the lockeroom photoshop bs).
I don’t see Olajuwon on this team. I see Harden who is just as talented on offense but no where near Olajuwon in terms of mental toughness! In fact I don’t see a Mario Ellie on this rag tag bunch
My god, I knew this board was emo, but damn... Never seen it this bad. I bet all these threads look way different if Gordon just makes that three at the buzzer and we're on a 6-game streak right now. I think this team is still just hungover after being jobbed by the officials in the WCF in one of the most atrocious officiating jobs since Lakers/Kings. I know I am.
