What if we had taken Kawhi, Tobias Harris or Jimmy Butler instead of "Carmelo"? What if we had taken Faried or stashed Bogdanovic instead of DMo? So many what ifs
Not really. Leonard was a no-brainer. He was the best player available and filled a position of need. Every so-called expert had him going much higher in the draft. On draft night I recall Jay Bilas saying no way we pass on Kawhi. Tobias Harris and Jimmy Butler were not sure things like Kawhi Leonard. The Spurs traded one of Pops favorite players (George Hill) to pounce after we dropped the ball. Just saying.
How in the world could that work out? I'm guessing you'd have to offer Asik, but I don't think NYK would want him. And even if they did, that salary cap thing would provide a complication... I think. Not a cap guru. Also, lump me in with the "not very high on Faried" group. CH put it well on the first page of this thread. He's a good player, but needs to be in the right situation to be really impactful.

There is no Asik-Iman swap to make. Salaries don't match. Asik - $8.3 mil Shumpert - $1.7 mil I wouldn't do it anyways, even if the salaries did match.

I forgot about salaries... I would love to have iman on this roster... Beverly and smith, jones or Dmo for iman
Is it really a great deal for NY though? Personally I don't like Faried. He's a very good player but where's the fit? If you put him next to a Dwight Howard/Roy Hibbert type, then you'd have no spacing cause Faried can't shoot. Put him next more of a stretch 5 type(Bosh, Hawes) and you're horrible on defense. Faried needs to be in a high paced offense where he can provide energy off the bench. It's hard to find that fit. And quite frankly, not sure NY is the place for him. Shumpert is currently the lesser player and smaller player. But he's the type of player you can put on every team. If you put him on the Rockets, he'd probably just take Garcia's spot in the rotation. He can naturally fit any team he's on. Good defender, can seemingly hit a 3 now, and generally decent offensive game. I think it's a fair trade, but there are probably more GMs enamored with the Manimal than Shumpert.
1. I am always amazed how much I despise Frank Isola. 2. Aren't the NY Post and NY Daily News basically on the same level-the bottom level of print journalism 3. I could have sworn Bill Simmons mentioned that very soon we would begin hearing Faried's name in trade talks.
Yeah, NYP and NYDN are pretty crappy. Faried is due for an extension soon and the Nuggets don't really have a need for a low ceiling guy like him. So, he'll probably get traded;likely to a playoff team/contender or maybe to a young team trying desperately to make something fit by giving up their own mismatched pieces.
