I thought it was interesting that they based Bush's IQ on unrehearsed speech's and transcipts. You know, the average person does not have a 150 or higher IQ. These are the people Bush is talking to, so does it seem odd that he might speak in terms and sentence structures they can easily understand? I know it sounds silly, but a good way to connect with people is to get them to identify with you, and spouting politician jargon and large words usually won't do that.

I don't really think you can come close to this man's IQ by simply studying unrehearsed speeches and transcripts. The lack of a body of work is telling that he probably does not have well developed writing skills, but you can't possibly come to an accurate IQ number based on that.

I'm just waiting for them to use Bush's campaign speeches to figure up what his SAT would be if he took it today. Surely that's possible too.

Well, politics aside, Clinton was smart enough to get into Oxford. Oxford ain't exactly Texas Tech.

So you did something better academically than being a Rhodes scholar and graduate from Yale Law School? [IMG]

Wouldn't this test just determine if you are a good author and public speaker? It takes no account of reasoning, math, science, anything except English. If being an English teacher makes you the best President, then the study might concern me.

Hydra: While I think this sounds pretty phoney, verbal ability has been pretty well linked to overall intelligence...

...that's why colleges generally weight the verbal score on the SAT much more substantially than the math score.

I wasn't able to find any info on the names, organizations, or tests that you mentioned. Links would be greatly appreciated.

I was able to find this stuff out though:

A 91 IQ would place Bush Jr. in approximately the 28 %tile which seems extrordinary because that is about the mean IQ for laborers and janitors (not an insult, that is true). I would REALLY question any source that made that claim. There are many types of intelligence and making a judgement based on one type isn't very accurate. Most of us are not very well rounded because we cultivate one type over another due to interests, work, hobbies, etc. I would hope that Bush is smarter than his impromptu speaking abilities indicate.

According to the following links Bush would be in the 125 range based on his SAT score.

    http://plaza.powersurfr.com/delajara/oldSATIQ.html

I don't know how reliable those sources are, but they make more sense than a 91 IQ.

BTW, I hate Bush Jr, but I would also hate to think the guy holding the button is that stupid.

Something else that is interesting. That article (no source cited) places JFK's IQ way below what you posted.

It was reported several years ago (in Time magazine, I think) that Bill Clinton's IQ was 125, versus the 170+ in this report.

With respect to Dubya, to paraphrase the esteemed Homer Simpson, "Is there no room in this world for the man with the 91 IQ?"

Ivy league education doesn't mean you're smart, just well-connected and/or very wealthy, occasionally it means you're smart, but not in most cases.
