I found the finale to be terrible. I think we forget just how much tension was built and just how stressful we all felt as Dexter would pursuit his villains. I hate that they went out on such a weak 'bad guy'. I feel the people trying to justify this as a good episode much less a good series finale are kidding themselves. The same shoddy writing with putrid attempts to tie every loose end. I get what they were going for with the ending, but all in all there was just too much non-sensical **** filling an episode (err couple seasons) of what I used to hold as the best television show out. The big stand off with the villain ends with Batista interfering only to have an anti-climatic pen jabbing contest. One of which is horribly written off by Batista and Quinn. It's cool that Saxon was able to car jack at the deaf and blind store apparently. Never mind him casually walking around in public dropping blood everywhere with a pistol out in the open. No one questioning a random citizen wheeling out what appears to be a dead body past anyone and everyone at the cities biggest, still active hospital. Masuka's daughter which was a complete waste of space they didn't even bother wrapping that subplot. Hannah stabbing Elway in the leg with horse tranquilizer on a crowded bus, completely unnoticed. Swimming for miles out of a hurricane wreck to become a lumberjack. The way they had Deb be fine for a little while before going into surgery and then all of a sudden trumping up medical complications during the surgery felt anti-climatic and stupid. I could go on and on. Ultimately, what I think really hurt this final season was the writers going no where but the route of acquitting Dexter at all costs. Breaking Bad has had Walt's house of cards fall down and showed the devastating aftermath and costs of his actions. Dexter has Deb die but Dexter being at fault was so shoehorned that it mainly dealt with his INactions (not killing Saxton). K.. I'm done ranting. I haven't even touched the tip of the iceberg as I could dissect even further but it's pointless and done. The producers officially put in as much effort into this final season as they did baby Harrison Spoiler
That's exactly what it felt like. Batman rides off with the bomb to move it over the water away from Gotham only to live because he fixed the auto-pilot previously but just when did he exit and get away as they showed him just seconds earlier still piloting the bat-flyer over the water? And, did he have an auto-eject seat flyer that was flyable so he could zoom away from the explosion? Now, you got Dexter doing the same thing driving a boat into a hurricane with no apparent way to get back to shore. I suppose he fixed the auto-pilot as well and auto-ejected in the captain's seat motoring his way back to shore. As far as I know, Dexter didn't even have an inflatable raft on board but I guess he would have had to so he could paddle back to shore with an oncoming hurricane. Or, he was rescued by a fellow lumberjack. The part about Dexter taking Deb off life support with no one noticing her vitals were disconnected is malarkey as well as him wheeling her out in civilian clothes with cops all around even if there was a storm. Any dumb cop would notice what he was doing with his boat right there. Poor Deb went from brain dead to MIA. Wonder what her XO and friends are thinking? She just walked away. It was a terrible wrap-up and was a weak effort by the writers to wrap it up. The only point one could draw is that Dexter realized he was a monster that destroyed everything around him and had to be alone because of it or it would just continue. So, he gets to sit at a table looking like a lumberjack and do what exactly? Dexter was a guy who constantly was thinking. There is no way he would settle to be that guy. My bet is he would have been bored with that after a few months and sought out Hanna and Harrison after thinking things had settled down. After all, everyone thinks he is dead and no one is looking for him. All he has to do is stop killing people. The way he treated Deb at the end as just another one of his victims to dump versus just leaving her for a proper funeral...not sure I get that. I guess it was his way of confirming to himself he was an actual monster and Deb was no different than any of his other victims in that he caused all their deaths.
So does everyone think Harrison is dead too? Or does Jacob swallow his pride about being beat by Hannah and revealed that Harrison is with Hannah? Or does he not tell anyone as a goodbye gift to Deb?
I kind of get what they were going for with the end...psychopaths tend to destroy the lives of everyone around them, often have to start a new life, or become alienated. Dexter finally has emotional breakthrough or whatever, boom lumberjack. That Clyde Phillips ending sounds great. Great payoff from the masuka daughter storyline
Well that was just an ok finale but to me his turn to fake suicide was sooo sudden that it made little sense to me, he was so full of hope couple of hours before but i guess its because deb meant so much to him. But some things that made no sense: 1) I guess he wanted to protect his son from his serial killer ways by leaving him with another serial killer? Wouldn't it have been better to leave Harrison with someone normal? 2) Why the **** does Harrison love Hannah so much? 3) How does nobody notice someone getting punched in the face in a parking lot? 4) Why didn't that "tongue cut off" guy jump out of the car when he was at the hospital with cops near by? Seemed like a easy out to me but instead he sits in the car getting his tongue cut off? 5) Dexter brings a fork to a gun fight. 6) How can someone steal a body from a hospital, even with a convenient boat dock? The hospital didn't notice her flat lining either? 7) So we are to believe Dexter crashed his boat and swam to shore during a freaking hurricane? 8) ****in Hannah, are hats that expensive in miami? 9) Doesn't the airport have video cameras? and won't they notice dexter planting a fake bomb?--> o wait i forgot Dexter already killed someone at the airport so obviously airport security is lacks... 10) Is hannah blind in her left eye? how the **** does she not notice elway sitting right next to her? 11) Who are astor and cody? --writers 12) Masuka t*** daughter? 13) Well lets see what miami metro has to deal with: Dexter's boat gets destroyed (Dexter presumed dead), Debs missing from a hospital, Harrison Missing (i guess presumed dead?), I guess elway will spill the beans about Harrison and Hannah? 14) No one notices elway getting injected with a needle?

This show has become so full of dumb moments that makes it hard to enjoy it. The ending could have been enjoyable and justified but the writers made no logical steps in the whole season that it made me criticize every part of it.
Pretty terrible final episode and season. The difference between this show ending and Breaking Bad ending is crazy. As much as I don't want BB to end, Dexter is the perfect example of a show going too long.
I'm not going to bother detailing the reasons for why this limpdick ending sucked, but here's a good breakdown of it: http://www.avclub.com/articles/remember-the-monsters,102659/
They should have let Deb find out about Dexter end of season five when they were talking to each other through the curtain. That would have made season five awesome. Use season six to wrap it up and have the ending Clyde mentioned. Would have made it one of the best series ever. Instead it felt like a team contending for a championship for a few years and then going completely in the tank for no reason.
What a delightful end. You can tell the final episode was given much thought. As an avid Dexter follower, I am pretty sad that this series is finally over. Some likes: Glad they took out ghost Harry - he was annoying. I loved how Dexter nonchalantely pushes the button gently after he savageously spikes Saxon's neck (with a normal pen no less) - classic Dexter mannerism. I liked Quinn's small smirk knowing that Saxson was dead - self defense eh? I also liked that Dexter was forced to kill Deb instead of needing to - still a pretty sad scene. But: No Masuka/daughter storeyline? How did Hannah have the horse tranquilizer handy? How come no one was guardng Deb's room when Dexter came? Anyways, I'm digging the lumberjack Dexter now. Dark passenger in the woods. Next series on Showtime!
I know right? Why no Masuka and his daughter? How do they end up in their relationship? Are they still friends? Is she still high? Does she move in with him? Does she take Dexter's job at Miami Metro? Does he get to see her t*** again? These questions need answering, and I can't stand these loose ends!!
It's funny that this fan made re-write of season 8 is more interesting than what the writers actually came up with: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hl407-PZa3k
When Dexter was leaving Hannah and Harrison at the bus stop, he handed her another bag containing "supplies". The way he said it implied there were things like the tranquilizer inside.
For fun and kicks, what are some potential Dexter spin-off ideas? - Dexter: Dark Passenger in the Woods (my favorite) - The Ghost of Deb - Hannah and Harrison: Life in Argentina - Vamos Lt. Batista! - From Cadet to Sargeant: The Story of Quinn - Masuka & Hooters
