    it's a given.

if landry does come back, we can afford to play without yao during games just fine. those 2 are more than formidable (along with mutombo and hayes and dorsey) to help yao out. the depth at the big men position is excellent.

yao just needs to play 28-30 mins and coast through the season without injury. we don't need him to have an excellent yr. just save all that energy for some playoff whooping.

When people pay for a ticket they expect to see the best players on the floor. Giving a player days off when healthy isn't really an option.

Just putting a player out for the sake of putting him out for 38 minutes a game... does not guarantee a win in the regular season or the playoffs..

in fact I would argue... the more time Yao spends on the court the less efficient he gets...

Yao has proven he can put up big numbers... in just 1 half of play...

if anything... if I were RA.... I would tell Yao he is only giving him 25 to 30 minutes a game...

but in those 25 or 30 minutes Yao needs to put 25 points a game and get 10 rebounds...

too bad the world will end in 2012

yeah, they should limit his minutes depending on the scenario. If the Boston Celtics roll into town, he should play his normal starter minutes. Now, if its the Memphis Grizzlies, then you know...

But I think they already do that anyways...

my only issue is that he won't learn how to pace himself when he needs to play 40 minutes come playoff time - now maybe he has that experience, but the conditioning needs to be there too.

Which is why i think in the month of march/april - he needs to really get back to that 38 minutes a game for conditioning purposes.

we won't need him for 40 mins even in the playoffs. adelman's style of play at its best is a faster-paced tempo (the style you saw when landry was healthy and we were rolling the 10 games after yao went down). in the playoffs, yao can play 35-36 mpg.

I think the minutes van Gundy had him playing worked well enough. Granted, even though Adelman played him more minutes, the minutes were less intense as Yao was not asked to come out of the paint to contest long jumpers or switch off on the PnR. So less intense minutes, and fewer of them, sounds good to me. I just hate to see the Yao Ming Face halfway through the third quarter, you know the one where he's so pale it seems like he's about to break out into the Thriller dance:

    Yes....
i would say that they sit Yao until January 1st to give him time to recover from all he's been through.
that should shift his injury window towards the may/june timeframe or maybe later.

No more than 30-32 minutes a game, I hope.
