Did you even read what was wrote in the context it was written? I fully understand that he has the ability now to play those minutes from a breathing standpoint. He can catch his breath and still play. He can't play with his freakin feet and legs breakin down on him. That's the issue, not his ability to breathe. The guy is in unchartered territory to be as athletic as he is with his size. Having someone roll up on your foot is one thing. The bone starting to fracture because of your size is something completely different. He's owed way to much money and is to big of a part of the franchise to not play it safe with him. Anything less is just irresponsible.
Yao's got to play enough minutes to get the Rockets home court in the playoffs. If that's 30 minutes a game, fine. I'm thinking it's probably going to be closer to 36-38 though.
Yes. Both Yao and Mcgrady need to have their time limited. This has been the issue for the last 4 yrs. It is time to get them some decent rest. Mutumbo may be a year older so if we aren't going to play him til late in the season then gosh darn it... get us another center. Unless everyone here is thinking scola is going to be able to man it up this season for a few minutes. But let's not wear him out to where we'll have no choice but to keep hayes in case of insane injuries...Home court advantage is one thing but uhm I'd rather have our players just healthy.
The Lakers are going to have Bynum back next year. Greg Oden will be playing. The West is going to be super competitive next year. Does anybody really think that the Rockets are going to be able to compete without Yao and T-Mac playing a lot of minutes?
one more thing... if yao dives on the floor for a lose ball, I would make him do 1000 pushups after the game. That's what shane, scola, hayes, and landry are for. I think going back to Van Gundy's approach is a must. Yao has to play around 35 minutes, with 3 minutes and 20 seconds rest between the end of the 1st and the start of the second, end of the 3rd, beginning of the 4th.
not sure it really depends on how he plays in the system. I think Yao himself said he was less fatigued in adeleman's system since he wasnt always in the low post but I would in general believe that on average a 30-35mpg would be good for yao. Give or take depending on the game situation. in the playoffs probably more towards 35-40 mpg on the road. more importantly i wish we are fully healthy come playoff time. i dont care if yao or tracy or anyone has a small injury that keeps them out 5-10 games but if they do have such an injury have it be at the beginning of the season and no season ending surgeries please for the love of god.
That's what i was thinking. It sounds nice to have him play less minutes but the less he plays the more problems we have winning. He's a star, he has to play star minutes. Its the medical staff's job to see that he can play all season, not Adleman's.
in 06-07, yao avg 33 mpg and we got homecourt. no way yao's mins should exceed 35. he admitted he experienced fatigued BEFORE the all-star game last yr. there was a 3-game stretch on the road mid-way through december or january where he absolutely wasn't himself and you can easily see the fatigue.
I seem to recall that in 06-07 the Lakers sucked. I don't think NO was all that great either. Let me remind you about who didn't make the playoffs this last year: GS and Portland. Portland's going to have Oden next year. Until the league comes to its sense and just sends the top 16 teams in both the West and the East to the playoffs the West is going to continue to be a dogfight. Dallas and Phoenix both missed out on home court this year. The West is probably going to continue to be super competitive, and Yao and Tracy are going to have play as many minutes as it takes to get into the playoffs with home court, because not having home court is going to be a major, major disadvantage. It would be nice if they could sit for extended periods of time. But in a conference where they're going to be banging heads against LA (with Bynum back), Utah, SA, Dallas, NO (with a year of experience under their belts), Portland (with a year of experience under their belts and Oden playing), Phoenix, Denver it's a pipe dream to think that the Rockets can get anywhere by resting their two best players and coasting.
